Camaro SS/RS ?
This is sorta non third gen,but I hope some Camaro enthusiasts can help.A friend of mine has a 69 Camaro RS,It also says SS in the middle of the front grille,my older brother who knows more about the older cars than I do,told him it has to be either an SS or an RS.The car owners response was "you can get an RS on any model".To me that is like a Firebird "Formula/Trans-Am",no such thing, right? The car is a race car and has been for years, this tells me any SS emblem could be stuck on the grille,my brother says it's an RS grille but like I said I wouldn't know the difference on that year.Dont get me wrong, the owner is a good friend of mine, but he is the kind of guy that if the GM designer from 1969 told him it couldn't be an RS/SS he probably woudn't believe him:sillylol:.I really don't know myself, but if anyone does, let me know. Thanks!

From 1967-72 you can get an RS/SS or an RS/Z28.From 1967-69 the RS/SS and RS/Z28 had the hideaway headlights. From 1970-72(2ndgens)the RS/SS and RS/Z28 had round turn signals next to the headlights. Here's a 67 RS/SS convertible

Thanks a lot for clearing that up. I am sure the owner of the Camaro will rub this in my brothers face for quite some time :lala:
They have an on going knowledge war about older cars.
I myself had no idea you could get an RS/SS. Is it still that way with 4th gens?

DAMN "91ZMAN" WHY DID YOU POST THAT PIC OF THE '69 PACE CAR. I OWNED THAT EXACT SAME CAR IN THE MID TO LATE '70'S UNTIL IT WAS STOLEN AND STRIPPED. I JUST GOT OUT OF TREATMENT LAST MONTH AND YOU GO AND POST THAT PIC.
THAT WAS THE BEST CAR I EVER OWNED. I NEED $30,000.00 SO I CAN BUY ANOTHER ONE BEFORE I DIE. I'D RATHER HAVE ONE OF THOSE THEN A 4TH GEN.

The RS was an option available on all Camaros. You could have a base car with the RS option. It included the hideaway headlights and chrome trim mouldings. There were a few other distinctions on the RS, but these were the basics. The rear backup lights were also mounted below the tailights instead of being integrated in the taillights.
