new Guy Post: What is the difference between an IROC Z28 and a regular Z28?

I have been looking around for a an IROC for a while and was woundering what the difference is between the iroc and the regular Z28. Was it just an factory upgrade to the Z28 or was it a dealer package. Also I am new here so I really dont know too much about F-Bodies or this site. Is the IROC more rare than the z28? I know that they were only made in the third gen f-bodies. Well anyway sorry for the long post. Thanks!

The IROC option was originally a factory installed suspension and appearance upgrade available on the Z28. In the years that both IROCs and Z28s were available (85- 87) the only year that there were more Z28s than IROCs was 1985. From '88-'90, there was no regular Z28 available, just IROC-Zs. So to answer your question, IROCs were more common than plain Z28s for the most part.

Inevitably you will be told to do a search ojn this subject as it comes up quite often. I'll give you a quick run down on the differences. The Iroc Z was an option available on 85-87 Z28's known as RPO B4Z. In 1988 the Z28 went away and Iroc Z became a stand alone model until 1990, after that GM lost the rights to the name and resurected the Z28 monicor. The differences were as follows, monotone paint treatment, Plenty of stickers to let everyone know what your driving,15mm lower ride height,Billstein rear shocks, special front struts, a "wonderbar", some of the other things that were standard on the Iroc Z but were available on the Z28, Hood louvers,16" aluminum rims on beefier tires, special steering box. These are some of the things that I remember that seperate the 2 models.I'm sure some other members will add to this list or correct any info that I've given you that may be erronious.
Damn I took too long to type this, someone beat me to it
