I agree, there is no way that it would have left the factory with one seats so much higher than the other, it's just not right. Although he did post the correct RPO codes. I guess we will just have to see a SPID photo to settle it.

Good eye kizz, it is higher, you were right .

I just had mine apart and was going to take pics of the underside.

The pic of the spid is useless, Chris did the best he could though considering. Myself I would have not been able to hold the camera still

Chris,

Dont feel bummed, this find is one that you only read about, how many people stumble upon a recaro option like this?

Your story is epic!!!

If you get it I would request a report from PHS and see what they can provide, hell some people have direct contacts with PMD and Im sure there is a way to find out more info.

Its obvious to me now that the drivers seat is higher. Would PMD roll one off the line like this? Who is to say, personally I would find it odd that they would.

TTYL !

That is true, that never occured to me, I was thinking the adjustments were forward and back only for some silly reason

It also looks like the passenger seat may be tilted back a bit in a couple of the pics, especially the pic through the passenger side door. That too may help make it look lower than the driver's seat.

I can't believe you're having second thoughts now just because its originality was called into question! That car is a no-questions-asked DREAM FIND and you should get it regardless. It's like saying "oh.. I thought this was a carat diamond for a dollar, but since it has a little blemish in it I guess I'll look for something else like rocks on the beach.." Man, if you're not getting it, that's one thing but at least do us the favor of posting the seller's contact info here so one of us fanatics can get it. That car deserves to be owned by someone who can appreciate its rarity and keep it stock and maintain it, etc. Seriously what's their phone number? I don't even have $1700 to spend but I will find it somewhere, I'm sure

BUY THE CAR!!!!!!!!!!

Or at least let me or someone else who will appreciate and care for it have the info, I'd give $1700 for that virtually sight unseen!

That seems to be one that needs to be returned to pristine original congition and kept that way, if you don't have the resources or desire, or want one to modify,Please let one of us save it!!!

Alright here is the deal.My grandfather is the one who found this car.The owner who had it was a fire fighter that died in his sleep at the fire station in june and the family is selling it for $2000 but said they would take $1700 for it.My grandfather wanted to get it and make a profit on it and originally so did i.But after talking to you guys i realized that i want it for myself and fix it up and keep it all original.I went to him yesterday and told him that if he would buy it for $1700 that i would give him $1900 when i sell my miata since i dont have that much money right now.Well he doesnt know crap about cars (much less thirdgens)and i guess he thought he was gonna make some kind of HUGE profit on it and laughed at the idea of only making a $200 dollars on it.So i am going to put my miata in the auto trader and try to buy it and save it without that SOBs help.If i dont get any bites in a few weeks i will GLADLY pass it on to one of yall.I was told by the 17 year old son that it was originally owned by an older lady who sold it to the kids father because the car just got too uncomfortable for her (the lil old lady story i know). But the thing is they arent trying to pass it off as anything but a plain OL trans am that they just want rid of.They know nothing about the seats and arent advertising it or anything and its put up so i think it wont sell anytime soon.MEanwhile i am going to try like hell to get it and like i said if i dont i will pass it on.Sorry this was so long!

why not get a loan so you can get it before it sells, if you cant qaulify for a loan, find someone who can qualify and have them co-sign.

Sell the miata, pay off the loan, have a better credit rating... actually keep the loan for about 6 months then pay if off with the miata money. If you pay if off in less than 6 months Im told it wont help your credit rating at all.

I somewhere once saw that AS9 was the Recaro seats. Might be something to look into. I should try to find that again. What is the RPO for Lear Siegler seats?

So, is this a southern car as well? What do the floor panels underneath look like? It also looks like it still has the lower side skirting on it too.

Here is where I saw it.

http://www.geocities.com/~lobird/wwf039bettencourt.html

Don, this is you, at the top you list Recaro as AS5 and on the site I found you list it as AS9.

Oh well, I guess this type of thing makes for good conversation.

Sorry, thats one of the goofs made by the webmaster of my Firebird club, he also mispelled "Recaro"

AS5 is the correct code for the Recaro buckets. Thanks for pointing that out

YEah the car is an original southern car and is totally rustfree.I had it on ramps the other day degreasing the underside and the floors are toally solid.Obviously the car spent alot of time down a dirt road because the underside had red mud stains all over and so did behind the taillights when i went to change the bulbs. If anyone is interested i will post what PHS had to say when i get it back.I am very happy with the car but it still needs more detail work including a paint job which hopefully it will have soon. The interior has come out close to perfect after shampooing EVERYTHING.
