plz info on '86 z-27?

k, not sure if I asked this yet here or not but I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the z-27 is a half year model or some other sort of camaro.... sounds silly i know but here on vancouver island half of the mechanics I have asked have never even heard of it! All the info i can find is something about a sport coupe. I realize it is not rare as it is only a v6 2.8L but still would love to have some more info... thanks for helping out this lady who is trying to learn more about camaros...

Z27 is the RPO code for the 1st and second gen SS. During the 3rd (1986) gen, some dealers or aftermarket company ordered the sport coupe models with upgrades and decal'd them with 'Z27' badges. They have been seen in the NorthEast US and Canada, leaving me to believe it was in that region that these cars were available. It's kind of like the ZF Camaro. Just a dealer optioned sport coupe with decals.

Just some quick trivia - The Z28 name was chosen because Z27 denoted the performance SS package and Z28 was the next numeric code for a performance package. Ever notice that Chevy performance packages start with a 'Z'?, i.e. Z24, Z25 (Chevelle SS396), Z26, Z27 (Camaro SS), Z28, Z34, Z71, Z06, etc.
