85 Trans AM literature
I have a 85 Trans AM silver with silver and Greay Interior My seats have ***** on the sides for lumbar and side ajustments and ajustable leg cushon drivers seat is power. the seats are silver and gray. it has 5.0 TPI and I think the rims are 15 inch thay are not on the car thay are aluminum and say pontiac on them and have the black center capes with a silver bird. I would like to learn as much about this car as I can and would love some posters or dealer brochures for this year and any manuals that anyone has also window stickers evrything. I am going to restore this car to original except I think it will have a 375 HP 5.7 liter in it for more fun. Thanks Steve

The seats are the "Lear Siegler" seats, RPO: B20.
The wheels are 15in. Deep dish Hi-Tech turbo cast aluminum wheels. They are common.
The exterior color, if original should be either "Silver Metallic" (color code 12) Or "Gray Metallic" (color code 15).
Interior is probably: Medium Dark gray (code #82)
I hope that helps. You might want to look for your cars RPO sticker, it should be in the center console. It will help you decode which options came with your car.
Im sure other people can add to what I said.
As far as brochures and info, it can be easy or difficult to find, it just depends on how lucky you are, just start asking around and you should be able to find something.
Good luck w/ the resto.

Congrats on your car, 305 TPI's are not bad
The 85 brochures are easy to find on ebay. The "Love Affair" add is there now again too.
There is also a merchandiser book made by PMD, very HTF, that shows all 85 models with RPOs, Fabric and Paint samples, Stripe samples, etc. I was lucky and found one
This is from my Full Line book that I scanned and submitted to thirdgen.org:

I did the same with my add:

Fell free to copy and print, on the house

We bought our 85 new from Burns Pontiac in Cinaminson, NJ. Anyway I don't remember what we did with the brochure, but I do remember having to convince the dealer to sell us a T/A with those 15" deep dish wheels. We wanted the 305 h.o with the 5speed but we didn't like the look of the 16" wheel. The 15" wheels were primarily on base birds and t/a's with lg4 motors. The fact that you have a tpi with fifteens is worth noting. Do you also have four wheel discs?

Pretty easy to find stuff on ebay, I've seen postcards, brochures, and a poster before. Theres also a few articles on 85 TA's floating around out there.
I am pretty sure you couldnt get a TPI without ordering the WS6 suspension as well. In 85 that means you had to get rear discs too. I'll have to look at my files when I get home to confirm this.

Let's see what you got on the TPI/WS6 madmax, it would be interesting to see because I have a HPP Dec 84 issue that tested a 85 TPI with the 15" cross spoke wheels. These were new for 85 and an option to the deep dish hi techs.
The Y99 and WS6 were the 2 suspension levels for the TA in 85.
If you wanted the L69 or LB9, the P235/60/VR15's were a mandate.
I know some rags are not that accuarate, I do trust HPP a little bit more than the others, but then again they say in the same article that the 16" Hi Tech Turbos came in light chestnut (like mine) and "charcoal"(???).

Yea I'll look. Has me curious. I cant think of any 85 I've seen with TPI and without WS6, and seems to me you couldnt do that anyway. I'll find out for sure when I get home. That or the guy who posted this has a nice copy of his RPO list with LB9 and no WS6...
My 86 has the 'charcoal' rims. Its kind of a dark gray. I've seen them on other cars (85's) as well. My 85 had gold, but someone painted them after the fact (dealer did it). I dunno what they were originally. I'd have to say yours are painted too, seems to me they were all machined face and the only painted area is between the 'spokes' on the wheel.

I recall our car being rare with the H.O. motor, 5 speed and WS6 with four wheel disc and 15" wheels. I don't recall ever seeing another like it. I can not remember however, if the dealer ordered the car with fifteens, or if he just swapped out the sixteens for fifteens to make us happy. The car was also "different" in that it had the wrap around spoiler, no screaming chicken on the hood and solid body color with the exception of the small checker striping (I don't know how else to describe it) above the body skirts.

The WS6 package in 85 came with 16" wheels and you couldnt downgrade them. The dealer must have swapped wheels on you.
The aerowing was optional in 85 and somewhat more rare than the older pedastal style wing. The hood chicken was an unusual option to have, and the checkered striping was pretty normal to have.

I would venture to guess that you may find quite a few "odd ball" 85s. It was the first year of the redesign, and first year of tpi, and first year of 16" wheels (84 anniversary excluded of course) Our 85 was an early car and I would tend to agree with you that the dealer swapped the 16s for 15s because we wanted the 15s but I no longer have the window sticker to validate and it has been too long for me to remember exactly how the deal shook down. On another point, I have owned two 87s and one 89 tpi birds and although they were great, there was nothing quite like that h.o. at full throttle when the secondaries would open up. It was just cool. My 85 is by far my favorite of the third gens I've owned.
