I recently sold an '85 IROC with 30,000 fewer miles on it than that one for $4,000 more than they're asking. It seems like a fair price to me, but I may be biased. It would be a steal at $6,500.

I agree the price is not too bad, he should be able to get that for that car.

I don't think it's necessarily a tremendous bargain, but I do think it's worth the money. Low mile 5 speed cars are virtually non existant.

haha...I called that guy last week in refrence to the car...he's not budging on price either. Unfortunatly that's more than I car to spend on a 305, even if it does have good miles.

I went looking for an Intrepid R/T for the wife. I saw quite a few Intrepids with around 30,000 miles going for $13,000. I know this IROC is not one or two years old, but the asking price seems fair. I'd rather drive an IROC than an Intrepid. So what were IROCs selling for brand new in 1985? About $18,000?

I can believe the $15,000 dollar price. I bought a new Firebird S/E in 1982 for $12,500.

With the usual options you see on most IROC's, the sticker price in 1985 was around the $17,000 - $18,000 range. Mine was lacking posi, rear disc brakes, luggage compartment trim, and the LS Conteur interior and it had a sticker price of $17,500.

then i guessed i got a steal,
28,300 miles on a 88 305 auto and i paid just over $6K
no power seat or mirrors though
$9,500 is alot
but i guess if he holds out he could get that price
but how many banks would finance a car $9,500 that stickers for the $4,500 range. the only reason my bank financed me was that i put down $2K and i know the loan guy.
would i pay $9,500 for that, if it had the 350....

Yup, but it does have the 305 5-Speed. 350 would really make it worth it.

I see nothing wrong with the 5 speed 5.0 cars, With the right driver, the 5.0 5 speed TPI should beat a 350 Auto car all day. But most people, myself included, could not drive a stick that well.

(Keep in mind that from 87-89 the 5.0 5 speed cars did NOT get the peanut cam like the Automatic cars. this engine should have the same cam as the 350)

In fact, I believe that the 5.0TPI 5 speed cars were more uncommon, than the 350 option. There at least more fun to drive.

I would say you got a great deal!

Most won't, those that will require an appraisal. I needed to borrow $8,000 of the $12,000 asking price of my old '85 IROC, and all I had to do was to get a Chevy dealer to give me a written estimate of the cars value. They'll write whatever you want them to for $50

Well I think it is a little high. I bought my 1987 IROC that has 305 TPI, 5-speed, G92 package w/ 4 wheel disks and 42,300 miles for $4100.00 plus tax from a used car dealer(I bought it in 1998). They wanted $6000 for it and in 40 minutes I had them down to $4100. By they way It was in mint shape (no rust or big dents)when I bought it and needed nothing but a tune-up to be perfect.

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me Biker. Sounds like you made out like a bandit on your car Todd. How many miles do you have on the IROC now Todd?

Yup there will be a Camaro again, bet on it.

A 305 5-Speed G92 car should not beat a 350 G92 cars no matter how good you can drive. Its a car with 45 more ci. and like 45 more ft. lbs. of TQ. A manual IMO isn't fun when you HAVE to shift ALL the time. I still don't get what people like so much about them when you can have a more consistent and accurate car that you can do other things with like shift manually. But thats me.

I stole my car with 6300 miles for $10k.

Todd, you bought an 87 car, 4 years ago. It was 11 years old and the end of production was not announced yet.

People are trying to get more out of these cars now because of the hiatus. An announcement was made by Kruse International Auto Auctions that all years of Camaros and Firebirds will likely see a 15% increase in value this year alone. The rarer cars could see more.

Don't worry guys, the Camaro will return. Unfortunatley, the Firebird is gone. Sources have confirmed the demise of the Firebird, but noone is saying otherwise on the Camaro. GM's own announcement said the Camaro was taking a hiatus. That means a break! I predict 2004 with a 2005 model.

I think these cars go up every spring/summer. Just like motorcycles. That's when everyone wants to take the tops off or just go cruising in a kick a@@ ride. The demise of the Camaro/Firebird just gives more incentive to buy one.

Yeah Scott, I think your car looks great. You need to post some more pictures on your web site. I have a 1987 z28. My rpo codes state that the color of my car is Victory Red. Yours looks to be the same color...except much cleaner, but then again, I've got 146,000 miles on my car. I'd like to see more interior pics of your car, just so I know what my car should be looking like.

Just an FYI. The decoder on this site is not 100% accurate for all F-bodies. The paint code 74 used on my car is called Dark Red Metallic at Chevrolet, Flame Red at Pontiac and I think GM references it as Victory Red. I don't see this as Victory red. Bright Red would be more victory than this. Victory red is actually bright red. Your car is actually called Dark Red Metallic if it's an 87 with paint code 74.

The color name is not important if you ask me. I know for a fact that even back in the 60's GM would use the same color across divisions but would give the color a different name. For example, My mother owns a "Riviera Plumb" 67 Buick Riv. My friend owns a "Dubonet" 67 Olds Toronado. The paint code is the same, they use the same paint chip, the only difference is the name. In that instance, they listed both names for the paint chip.

You're right John. I was merely explaining that same situation to dave. The RPO decoder on this site has a mix of Firebird and Camaro and is not specific to which model the rpo is associated with.

Not too bad Todd. Well under 10,000 miles per year. I'll take it that your IROC isn't your daily driver. At this rate you'll hit 100,000 miles after the new Camaro comes out.

There' this cat at work that has a 1998 z28. It's the exact same color as my 1987 z28. I asked him what his color was supposed to be, and it wasn't Victory Red. I think this color is closer to maroon than red...go figure. My 1982 Firebird was listed as Maroon, and it was just a tinge darker in color than my z. I guess if GM listed all the different names that this color was given, the list would be a mile long.
