Berlinetta or Z-28?

Berlinetta or Z-28?
Ok, I guy a know is selling a Camaro, and I'm thinking about buying it. The only trouble is, it looks like half a Berlinetta and half a Z-28! It has the Berlinetta/SC nose and hood, but Z-28 GFX and badges . It is an LG4-powered 5-speed. I have the VIN number and RPO codes if it helps. I'd really like to figure out what this car is, so any help would be appreciated. Oh, and the dash says "Camaro", weren't Z-28's supposed to say "Z-28" on the dash? Thanks.

If it has the Digital gages it probably is the Berl, I am not 100% positive on this but the Berl was the only camaro model available with the digital gages.
the LG4 was available in Z-28's thru the 87 model year that will not help
the VIN is no help either since all Camaro's were the same. Unlike the difference between Firebirds & T/A's.
You might be right about the dash thingie, tho.
The best way to tell if its a berl or Z28 is look at the RPO sheet, if it sais Z28, and the VIN matches the Vin on the car then there you have it..

This is true if the year in question is 1984 thru 1986. For 1982 and 1983, the Berlinetta did get the same instrument panel as other Camaros, so this would not be conclusive.

Absolutely true.

The truth is the VIN is THE MOST CONCLUSIVE way to determine if a car is a Berlinetta. On all Berlinettas regardless of year, the fifth digit in the VIN will be an "S". All Sport Coupes and Z28's have a "P".

Quite true.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm starting to think it might be a Sport Coupe, its definately not a Berlinetta, the VIN rules that out. I'm doubtful its a Z-28, the dash reads "Camaro" not "Z-28", and there's no Z28 RPO code, so I guess I'll take a pass on buying this car.
