GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
Sorry it took so long for me to post this.
I lost my connetion to TGO & couldn't
get back to this until now.
Here is the scoop.
I e-mailed John & asked him
If he had any luck making this GP happen.
This was his response:

Not as of yet. He hasn't had time to discuss it with me...
How many of you are looking to purchase these? It would be helpful to have a list of names and a general purchase number when he gets back to me
Thanks
John
So I told him I would ask how
many of you folks would
buy a $425 + shipping
TPIS Big Mouth intake manifold
for $350 + shipping.
Any one seriously interested please post here.
Details & progress will be posted as they are made know to me.

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
The intake would probably come from TPIS,
or possibly Edelbrock since they
are the ones who cast the
Big Mouth intake for TPIS.
I think that John Robie will have
a hard enough time negotiating the $350
price, let alone a guaranteed delivery date.
But I believe that Edelbrock would be more
stand up than AS&M was with the runner purchase.
For right now he needs to know the
number if interested buyers.
This would help him justify
his need to lower the price from
$425 to $350.( Volume buying)
Plus I'm sure he's hoping several buyers
will use his porting service or his
polishing/ powder coating service
all of which would lessen the hit he
takes selling the manifold @ the lower
price.

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
Got another message from John Robie today.
"It's not so much important who wants them, more so how many want them. The more units purchased, usually will drive the price down closer to manufacturing cost. For example, just a scenario... If I call them and say I'd like to organize a group purchase for ten people, they may tell me, 389 per unit, but if I say 50 units, they may say 325 per unit. The more purchased, the lower the unit price (generally speaking).
So, just put the word out that a group purchase is being organized (or at least attempted), and see how many are SERIOUSLY interested. you can count on the price going up for everyone else for each person that backs out. If you could, I would appreciate it if you would have them contact me directly at J_Robie@robiecustoms.com."
Thanks
John
I would say lets get organized here first.
when we get at least 10 orders then maybe we
can start individually e-mailing John with our full names
and other details.
( for now I can list the screen names for him)
But We are going to need more than just Pinky93 & me
Come on guys surely there are more in need of a high
flow intake manifold !!!!

Just read a PM from
srdynamics1
I'm in for $350, any time frame as to how long this will take?
The ASSM runner GP thread has weary of GPs.
Reply Message was sent to you. "Still in the negotiation phase....."
See same info above.
only 3 so far, we have a long way to go:

i am in, but dont want to wait. I think it would be hard to meet 50, more realistically 10-20 people. do the deal for that many people.

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
I e-mailed John today telling him the
TGO site went down.
That the last I'd seen we had 5
interested buyers.
Maybe more but couldn't be sure.
And I told him about concerns of timely
delivery.
I'll let you know of the response.
I'm sure it would help lower the price
if we could get more interested buyers.
If you want a good TPI intake manifold base
Now is your chance.... sign up now !!!!
There is power in numbers.
If we could get some more buyers
we could all save some $$$$$

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
I just got this reply to the e-mail I sent John Robie
last week when the site went down.
Back then we only had 5 names interested.
Hey,
Unfortunately, 5 is definitely not enough to get group purchase at less than 350. That would be 75 off retail. Its roughly 18 percent off. When I WAS buying them for stock, the lowest I could get them for was $393.68 each, plus shipping, that was buying them 3 or 4 at a time... So, you guys are hoping for a discount of almost 50 bucks off of my cost. You will definitely need more people, I would say 20 minimum before they are willing to negotiate. And at that point It is more likely that I could get a better price directly from edelbrock (as they manufacture them anyway).
Also, The accel manifold is of similar quality, and retails in Jegs and summit on occasion for $380 or so.
JOHN
I maybe reading this wrong but John seems to be
saying he'd sell 20 Big Mouth intake manifolds
for $350 + shipping.
At this point we have 7 interested:
1). 91-RS-B4C-FAKE?
2). Pinky93
3). Srdynamics1
4). navyCM
5). energycontacts
6). Scamo-2.8
7). jbpnumber03
According to John we are still 13
buyers short.
If it took us 2 weeks to find 7 it
would probably take a lot longer
to find the other 13.
The time between order & delivery would be further
delayed by this search for the other 13.
Almost everyone but me would like to have the intake
ASAP and I don't see it happening too quickly at this rate.
What do you folks want to do ????
Should we call it quits???
How many are wanting to wait & try to find 13 more buyers????
If we wait how long is everyone willing to wait???
Post up & let me know if this is still alive or not.

Why is the Accel so much cheaper? I would be willing to wait for the TPIS/Edelbrock, if it is indeed a better intake.

I think John was just trying to steer us
to a less costly alternative since we
haven't generated 20 or more interested people.
But I just checked the Accel is not cheaper.
(see the retail prices below)
Never having bought a tpi intake before
I couldn't really say what the difference is between them.
(if there is any difference... other than the price)
I know for a fact that Edelbrock cast all 3 of them now.
When TGO search was working I ran accross a post
of a guy who ordered an "Accel" intake & recieved
a box marked "Accel" but it was an "Edelbrock" intake
inside the box.
If you read the other post where a TPI intake
GP was attempted, Jegs raised the price of the
Accel intake when someone contacted them
about doing a GP.
If your going to port match the new intake
to your set up then I suppose any new intake would
be better than the stock one.
These are the current retail prices
that I found online
As of 10/06/07 10:00am
TPIS.com
500-509 Big Mouth Manifold........$425.00
robiecustoms.com

TPI vortec base only edl-3817 = $459.95
TPI base Manifold only edl-38601 = $660.99 (polished)
for those that need runners there are these packages

TPI runner & base intake edl-3893 = $739.95(89-92 tpi)
TPI runner & base intake edl-3892 = $739.95(85-88 tpi)

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
There's been so much posted about this all ready. No more accell intake manifolds are being made. Eldebrock supplies manifolds for accell and tpis. The only thing different for the tpis one is that they port and polish them.
By the way, I'm in no rush.

Actually when I e-mailed TPIS
about the porting they had no idea what
I was refering to.
So I would guess that they
don't give them the same treatment
like they used to do.
They did say for an extry $75 they could
gasket match them to the large tube runners.
John Robie will do it for $50

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
I guess I'm a late-comer to this thread, but I am interested... actually I ran across the robiecustoms site while looking for info on intakes, and I came back here to check out the shop's reputation. Seems to be good.
I am looking to do a "package deal" from John, though I have not talked with him yet. I'm thinking about picking up a P&P plenum, LT runners, and a ported intake (Edel or TPIS, don't think it matters). But maybe doing a GP for just the intake and buying the other stuff separate will save me just as much $ as any package deal he can give me...???
How likely is it that this GP will go through anyway? Doesn't seem to be gaining much momentum... I hope to buy somewhat soon (or at least start talking to John about it), but I can wait if need be.

Tenplus1 I sent you a pm regarding this thread.
For the other 8 buyers
1). 91-RS-B4C-FAKE?
2). Pinky93
3). Srdynamics1
4). navyCM
5). energycontacts
6). Scamo-2.8
7). jbpnumber03
8). 86 IROC
I haven't got much feed back as to what we should do.
I'm thinking that many of you want this intake now.
If you order an Edelbrock or a Accel intake
from summit or jegs you could get it by the end of the week.
You'd pay more but you'd get it in the time frame you desire.
It would probably take longer for John to deliver.
He would be making a special order to get them.
After once again seeing the retail prices of $399.95 to $425
The likely hood of such a deep discount as $350
seems rather remote.
Adding to it that we still need 12 buyers to even have a shot
at $350 really makes seting this up even harder than I thought.
I'm thinking of asking John what kind of price he could set up
for any of the 8 that are interested.
A real honest you can count on price...not a shot in the dark
that needs a minimum of 20 to get it.
Anyone still interested if the price is higher than $350????
You might save a few $ but not as much as I hoped for.

You guys are aware that the TPIS "Big Mouth" base is just the Edelbrock base (without the TPIS logo)? Why don't you try and get a "counter-bid" from Jegs etc for the Edelbrock base?

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
Prior base intake GP's had no luck with summit or jegs.
This was a message I recieved Oct. 8 from jegs.
"Unfortunately that is one of our vendors who require a minimum advertised price, meaning we have to sell at their set lowest price as part of our agreement. So, they're in total control of any sales and rebates and the like. I have seen some sales on the DFI stuff, but not alot. They tend to stay pretty stable.
Thanks
- jegsperformance "
I guess if Edelbrock makes all 3 then we are pretty much screwed.

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
After re-reading the older GP base thread.
I ran accross this reference to the Summit online.
EDL-3859 MANIFOLD
BIG MOUTH
TPI
I just checked. It says it's 4 cents more than the others $399.99
And it won't ship until 10/30/07
Where as the edl-3860 & 3861 etc will ship today for $399.95
No one every bought one last time, so I don't know for sure if
it is the same big mouth.
But since Edelbrock make them all now a days any way
it's a pretty good bet that it is.
All the prices have gone up at least $10 since this time last year.
I still haven't heard back from John yet, but
I'm going to have to think about this if he
can't do better than $399.95

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
Sorry guys,
I'd say this Group Purchase is a bust.
With only 8 buyers interested we cannot
get them for $350.
The price for 8 TPIS Big Mouth Intake base manifolds
would be $395 each + shipping.
I'm not 100% possitive but I think the TPIS
comes with a felpro 1256 gasket included.
(I'll double check with John)
Where as if you get an edelbrock 3860/3861
from Summit you'd still need to buy a gasket.
Thats $399.95 + 16.95 = $416.95 + shipping.
The felpro 1256 is simmular to a felpro 1204.
The TPIS manifold is cast to the size of a fpp-1204.
The 1256 is printoseal
while the 1204 has Steel core laminate
& Has a blocked off exhaust crossover.
So I guess to be a fair
comparison the Edelbrock would be $416.95
and the TPIS through John Robie would be $395.
That is a savings of $21.95
I guess It's up to the 7 of you.
Anyone interested
in $395 ?????
If there is no response I'll just
count your vote as a no, since almost everyone said
yes to this GP because I was trying to get
them for $350.
Here is the E-mail I got from John yesterday.

well. The gasket matching is about a day each once I recieve them, then 3 days more or so for shipping.
At only 8... the price will likely be about my price, which is 395 each, but I can finally discuss it with them and see where they will actually go.
Generally TPIS gets them to me in about a week, Provided they have enough to cover you guys it should be the same, But I will discuss that along with the pricing when I speak to them.

Re: GP for TPIS Big Mouth Intake Manifold from John Robie @ robiecustoms.com
Well the other buyers were pretty
much interested in getting them
ASAP.
And the seller wouldn't even consider
$350 for less then 20 buyers.
In fact he would like to see more than
that to make up for the loss he would
have to take.
So even if I could get everyone to wait
until your able to commit, that would only give us 9
we would still be a minimum of 11 buyers short.
I did have a counter offer from John:
He said he would sell intakes to the 8 (or 9 or 10)
of us @ $395 + shipping.
The TPIS intake comes with felpro 1256 for sure.
I haven't gotten a conformation on the edelbrock intakes.
( as far as I know you have to buy one yourself @ $16.95)
Granted this is $45 more than what I hoped for.
But it's still $30 less than TPIS's $425 retail price.
John did agree that there is little difference
between the TPIS & the Edelbrock.
This is just a little better deal than you could get from Summit.
Summit edelbrock 3860/3861 =
$399.95 + $16.95(fpp-1256) = $416.90 + shipping
TPIS from John Robie = $395 + shipping
And it kind of sounds as if anyone could get this type of deal
when they contact John....So that's where we stand.
So Brisk, you could probably wait until your ready, & then
contact -- John Robie <j_robie@robiecustoms.com>
and work out a deal for about the same price give or take.
