1989 Trans Am GTA - excellent condition
Excellent condition 1989 Pontiac Trans Am GTA. This car has been my weekend/nice weather driver. 305ci V8 has never been abused, and completely stock with exception of Flowmaster 80-series muffler & K&N filter. Car has always been garaged, never smoked in. T-top seals are in excellent shape and are conditioned with silicone regularly. Rear window and T-tops are limo tinted, side windows are 30%. JVC CD/MP3 player head unit (red backlit to match gauges). All speakers are 3-way Pioneers. Tires are new, paint is flawless, A/C blows cold. Car is located in Newark, DE, and is Delaware tagged until July, 2013. I will also include a car cover. Price is $4800 firm.
Quirks:
- There is a small 1/2" rip in the leather shift boot.
- Power antenna does not work, and is disconnected.
- Trip odometer is flaky. If you set/reset the trip, it will stop working indefinately, but always starts working randomly. As such, I don't use it.
- The headlight motors are less than a year old and function fine, but, as with most 3rd gens, sometimes one or both gets lazy and doesn't pop up for a few miles of driving.
- The power locks are getting weak. They function fine, but sometimes do not fully lock/unlock the doors.
- I do not drive it in the rain, but I did get caught in a bad rain storm and there were a few drips on the rear passenger seat. Tops do not leak with regular car washes. I have tried this several times to determine to find the cause of the leak, but eventually gave up and chalked it up to the extremely bad downpour.

whitety1025 - I didn't know the fenders were different?
prokillsx - I uploaded some pics to a photo album in the post. Are there any particular pics you'd like to see that are not in the album?

I'm in love with this car. I just wish I had the money to buy it. It would look incredible in my garage next to my gunmetal gray camaro
I didn't see any interior shots in the photo album. That may be what the poster was looking far.

If you have a copy of the SPID sticker, located on the inside wall of the center console, look for RPO code Y84. If Y84 is present, then the car is a GTA. If Y84 is not present, the car is not a GTA.
As whitety1025 pointed out, GTAs do not have the fender vents. If the car is a GTA, then the fender(s) may have been replaced. The PW7 wheels should also be gold if the car is a GTA. It also appears you have the Trans AM steering wheel, unless the car has the factory CD player that would not be the steering wheel used on the 1989 GTA.
Please take no offensive as we're just trying to help. You may be referring to it as a Trans Am GTA because many titles use that description (rather than state one or the other). The VINs between both Trans Am and GTA share the same VIN prefix.
Personally, regardless if it's a Trans AM or GTA, they're both equally nice cars and so is yours.

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA - excellent condition
Thanks, guys, for the info. I take no offense. I'll look for the sticker in the center console when I get home, and post some more pics. I do not know if it had a factory CD player - I bought the car with an aftermarket one. At any rate, I have a clean title in hand, and am selling due to divorce. My loss can be someone's gain.

My car has drum brakes in the rear, and does not have a sticker in the center console. Uploaded a few pictures of the interior.

I was thinking (maybe mistakenly) that all GTA's had 4 wheel disc brakes. Either way your car is beautiful. Even if it's just a Trans Am I'd give you 3,500 for it if you would deliver it to Ohio. No insult intended.

Fenders, non GTA seats, also has the emblems are in the wrong spots, and the wheels look silver (or the photo washed out the gold.) Still a nice looking car. Other photos I would include:
The tint job on rear window, rear wing.
And maybe I missed it, but mileage?
GLWS.

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA - excellent condition
Beautiful car!!!! I do question the fender vents and badging as said above. Not to be too concerned as in some years the GTA's were more common than the T/A's.
What does concern me is one of a few scenarios:
1. Someone changing the badging to mis-represent.
2. The car is a GTA but had significant front end damage to need a replacement of the front clip and a re-paint.
3. Off the top of my head, I don't recall Gunmetal gray as a T/A color in monochrome, so see 1 and 2 above.
4. Someone could also confirm about a T/A being available as a monochrome.

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA - excellent condition
I think gunmetal was a GTA color but this car has OBVIOUSLY had a recent repaint. I'm leaning towards it being a Trans am that was hit hard up front then re-painted and badged as a GTA. Not necessarily to fool a buyer. Maybe because they look sooo cool in gunmetal gray an with the gold badging? The wheels appear to have been stripped and repainted silver.

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA - excellent condition
if it started life as a trans am, why would it have to been hit? it already has a trans am front end.
I doubt it's a GTA, but let's not throw out things like it's been in a wreck when we don't know. Most likely somebody along the way dressed up a Trans am a little.
Still an amazing car, I would love to own it

I'll have to agree here and say likely a TA. Fenders, map pocket on dash, badges, seats, etc are all signs. Don't get me wrong, I would likely pick this thing up if you lived near me, it's beautiful. GLWS!

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA - excellent condition
Check the GTA Source Page under Research, RPO Production Figures: all '89 GTA automatics received the 5.7L V8, and all received the J65 Rear Disc Brakes; this car is NOT a GTA!

I bought this car and drove it home today. The seller, Jason, was extremely nice to deal with and my god is the original interior of this car clean. Thanks so much for all your help!
