Car: 1987 Firebird
Engine: 355
Transmission: T56
I havent gotten the car yet. Picking it up this weekend. Its a 1987 Formula Firebird. Im a little concerned with rust in one spot, will take a closer look once i get the car, and send pix if needed. Very nice built engine. Ill attach a pic. Also getting a built TH350 with it, has mixed internals, built by a very reputable builder, and aparently the TH350 can shift into 4th?. I cant attest to that, but it looks like a very beefy tranny none the less. plz e-mail me at online170@gmail.com if this sounds interesting. The car has tons of options, overhead console, 3spoke wheel, power everything, original radio, very clean tan interior, black car. (the tunnel ram setup you see in the picture isnt there, it looks like a stock 305, very clean when you open the hood, that is untill you drive it).

Ive wanted a porsche for a very long time, 1986 is a good year, but yours looks very clean. Thanks.

Im getting PMs on people wanting details on the Porsche. Here is a copy and paste from the description I posted on Ebay.

Up for auction is a my very nice 84 944.I have owned this car some some time and have spent alot of energy and money to get it where it is today.I will describe the car to the best of my ability, and I have documented receipts for everything done to the car by the previous owner and I.That includes all service records, repairs, and inspection reports.I hate to part with the car but it does nothing but sit in my garage as it is not a daily driven car.And I could use the money with the new addition to the family coming in March. After reading,if there are any unanswered questions, please feel free to ask.

General-84 944,118k,5spd,pwr windows,pwr brakes,pwr steering,pwr sunroof..

Cosmetics-Lets see..This car looks great considering it is 23 years old.The paint shines brightly as it has been garage kept for the last 7 years and waxed regularly. It hasnt seen moisture as long as I have owned it.However,I dont think it is the original paint as there are no stoneguards present. The only chipped up area on the car is the very front lower spoiler from rocks kicking up over the years. The body is 100% rust free and there are NO major dents or scratches anywhere. As a matter of fact,I only see one small ding. The windows are fully tinted with 5% all around as shown in the more recent pics below and some other small additions to enhance the cars aggressive stance have been added like a fully functional hood scoop off a 300ZX turbo that feeds a K&N cone under the hood..On the rear, the car sports the rear valence of the Porsche 951 that really adds flare to the back end of the car.The car sits on fully polished 16x8 and 16x7 turbo Fuchs that came off a Porsche 930.They are mint without a single scratch. The front tires are brand new and the rears are about 70%.The car is lowered in the front using 250lb Weltmeister springs, and the rear is slightly lowered via eccentric bolts. As far as other exterior stuff,,I did notice there is separation starting at the very top of the hatch glass from frame. This seems to be very common on 944s and this one is no different. With the exception of that and the chipped up lower front valance,The car looks as awesome as seen in the pics.I give the exterior an easy 8 out of 10.

Interior-The interior is also in good shape for its age.All door panels are fully intact and secure/All buttons and lights work as they should. That even includes the original clock, odometer, and power sunroof that works flawlessly thanks to a new seal, cable, and gear..The carpet is free of any rips or stains and all gauges work..I just installed a brand new pair of Konig simulated leather racing seats with Porsche sliders. The rest of the interior is just like any other early 944 with the exception of a MOMO wheel,,new Porsche "statesmen"mats,,and a 1000W sound system that hits hard and clean. It consists of a "fully motorized"Alpine CD head unit,1000W Soundstream amp pushing 2 10"JL Audio subs, and all new Blaupunkt surround speakers.I give the interior a 9 out of 10.

Mechanicly-As stated above.I have receipts for all repairs and updates made to this car and they are all within 5000 miles or 2 years. These are some of the things I can think of,but theres alot Im forgetting. Not to worry though..Thats what the papers are for.

Complete timing belt service including both belts, all tensioners and rollers, and new front seals.

New "updated"turbo water pump with 180dg thermostat and low temp fan switch.

New "updated"radiator with new upper and lower radiator hoses.

Fully removed and rebuilt oil cooler assembly with all new seals, and oil pressure sending unit.

New PORSCHE factory motor mounts and trans mount.

Full tuneup with Magnecor 8mm wires,Bosch Platinum plugs, cap and rotor, fuel filter, and PCV valve.

New Bosch 02 sensor.

and many other things I cant remember right now.The car is bone stock except for a few items that include a Weltmeister throttle cam,K&N cone filter,Bursch test pipe, low temp thermo and switch, and a AC delete bracket. The car has always had frequent coolant flushes and Mobil1 oil changes,The car doesnt spit, sputter, overheat, leak,or burn any fluids. It starts right up and runs like a top without issue. The trans shifts in and out of all gears smoothly and the clutch does NOT slip. The shift lever does have some play as most 944s do.I would trust driving the car anywhere.

Suspension/Brakes-The entire front end of the car has recently been replaced. It has new front shocks and strut isolaters, new ball joints, new tie rod ends, new rack bushings, new control arm bushings, and Weltmeister springs. It has new brakes all the way around and stops as it should. The car has developed a shake at around 60mph and I brought it right in to be looked at..According to the Porsche specialists in town, the car is in need of new rear wheel bearings. They quoted me $312 to do them and said they are positive that is the issue.I didnt have it done as I was a little short on cash and the car is now sitting in my garage un-insured..The car can be driven anywhere but the shimmy and road wonder on uneven pavement can get annoying and the bearings will eventually have to be done.

Final Thought-If you are looking to get into a 944 that has had most of the bigger common problems already worked out and looks and runs awesome with alot of extras, this is for you.If you are looking for a virgin concourse car than look elsewhere.I dont need a nit picker showing up at my house using every flaw on the vehicle as an excuse of why he isnt going to pay for the car.Afterall,,it is 23 years old and it is not perfect.

Ok, that answers some questions, but still not the basic stuff most people want to know. Options, mileage? obvious stuff like that. I read something about a clutch in there, but just to make 100% sure, it is standard transmission right? And finally is this the 2.5L or 2.8L version? I need to brush up on my 944 facts, but im pretty sure the 2.8L wasnt offered till 1986. And lastly, it also sounded like you have this thing listed on Ebay or are auctioning it off? Will you entertain the offers here during the auction? Or do you want us to wait it out incase the auction doesnt go acording to plan?

Kenny,I did pick up a car.Thats why the Porsche must go.

As for the other questions,it clearly states the mileage, trans type, and options at the very beginning of the description.

The car was on Ebay.It went to $4650 and didnt meet the reserve. The reserve was $5000 and I know it will get that easily come spring.

As far as the other questions,it is a 2.5 engine. The 944S comes with a 2.7 and 3.0 with the later S models. The later engines are actually less desirable as they are prone to timing belt failures and are much more complicated to work on.As far as the better years being 86+ thats a false statement. The newer cars have a much more complicated suspension system than mine and are big bucks to repair..For example--On 83-85 if you needed ball joints, tie rods, ect,,,you would buy and install them cheaply and easily..On the 86+ if you needed any of those repairs,,you would need to buy an entire loaded control arm as the moving parts are "built in"to the arm..This means $$$.

Finally, when I bought my 944 I specificly waited for the right early model as they run a very negative offset wheel which looks a million times better. The later cars do not..The early cars also have a real sports car interior with the huge oval conical gauges and manual seats..The 86+ cars have a much more refined interior as they are loaded with luxury items and a totally different gauge layout. If I wanted luxury I would of bought a Caddy..Hope this answers all of your questions.

Sorry, i guess i read over that part. Thanks for clarifying. Ok well thanks for answering the questions. I read over the posts, it seems other ppl have just asked for more info, i was the only one so far to actually request a trade. Let me know if it sounds interesting. I JUST bought this firebird, and its going from the seller's storage to my storage for the winter, ill take some more pics and go from there. I live in Ottawa Ontario, could you give an idea of how you plan to work out logistics if you did go through with a trade? Alot of ppl on this board live in different corners of North America. I dont know how much shipping or frieght costs, but id imagine its pricy, so i would lean more towards the "meet at the border" option. Thanks.
