V-6 - V-8 swap.

Q: If I do a V-6 - V-8 swap what will I need?

A: You will need all of the following:
1.) A V-8 engine. You are probably going to want a 327 or a 350. Not saying anything about 305's it's just that for the amount of work you are going to do it's going to be more worthwhile to put a larger engine in.
2.) Any parts the V-8 needs
3.) All accessory brackets from a V-8 Camaro.
( Altenator, A/C, smog pump, etc.)
4.) Front coil springs off of a V-8 Camaro.
5.) New transmission. Your old T-5 will bolt up to the V-8 with the help of a new bell housing, But I wouldnt recomond it. The T-5's have excellent gearing, but are meant for a V-6. Just spend a little more cash and buy a good tranny.
6.) A new computer or at least a different PROM.
7.) New motor mounts.
8.) THE LITTLE THINGS WILL GET YOU!!! This whole swap is easy if you plan EVERYTHING out before hand and have decent mechanical knowledge.

Let me add my $0.05 (hey, I've been there done that, I should be able to put in more than two measly pennies):

1) Let's not forget a 383 or 400 (no replacement for displacement!)
2) You will need to replace the PS pump even if you are going with v-belts
2a) if you are going with serpentine plan on replacing every belt driven accessory
3) Also need crank and waterpump pulley
4) Watch out if your new V8 has aluminum heads, the new springs will be too tall
5) 700R4 must replace tranny, end of story
6) If you keep the computer expect to do a LOT of wiring work... the best (easiest) swap is from 2bbl V6 to 4bbl V8... the next would be MPFI V6 to TPI V8. Plus expect to do a LOT of sensor replacement.
8) The swap is not that easy unless you have a whole complete V8 car to swap the parts from. If not it is a PAIN IN THE A%% to track everything down. I'm STILL doing it.

I did that V6 to V8 swap. I put in a 350. The trans I put in was a 700R4 fron a 4.3lt van. My RPMs are real high 3000 at 70mph with a stock 2.73 rearend. With the info I have found that very high. The info said it should be below 2000 RPMs. Would a 700R4 from a F-Body V8 fix the problem?
Every thing else worked out great.

did you swap from a 5 speed? if so you may not be getting into fourth gear (likely) or not locking up the TC (less likely)
you could also have your TV cable adjusted really badly so that it just doesn't shift into fourth.
