Acronyms and their meanings

Automotive Terms

2BBL = Two barrel carburetor
4BBL = Four barrel carburetor
A2/3/4/5 = Automatic transmission, with number of forward gears
AFPR = adjustable fuel pressure regulator
AIR = Air Injection Reaction
ALDL = Assembly Line Diagnostic Link
BARO = Barometric Pressure Sensor
BDC = Bottom dead center
BW rear = Borg Warner rear
Cam = Camshaft
Carb = Carburetor
Cat = Catalytic Converter
CR = compression ratio
DIS = Distributorless Ignition System
DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code
ECM = engine control module
EEC = electronic engine control
EEC = Electronic Engine Control (Ford)
EECS = Evaporative Emissions Control System
EFE = Early Fuel Evaporation
EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation
ESC = Electronic Spark Control
EST = Electronic Spark Timing
GM = General Motors
HEI = High Energy Ignition
HO = high output
IAC = Idle Air Control
IAT = Intake Air Temp
IP = Instrument panel
ISC = Idle Speed Control
LC = lock-up converter
LCA = lobe center angle
LCA = Lower control arms
LSA = lobe separation angle
M3/4/5/6 = Manual transmission, with number of forward gears
MAF = Mass Air Flow (sensor)
MAP = Manifold Absolute pressure
MAT = Manifold Air Temperature
MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp
MPFI = Multi-port Fuel Injection
PCM = Powertrain Control Module
PCV = Positive crankcase ventilation
PROM = Programmable Read Only Memory (chip)
ROF = Rolling on the floor (goes with the second one)
RPM = Revolutions Per Minute
SD = speed density
SES = service engine soon
SFC = Sub-frame connector
STB = strut tower brace
TBI = Throttle Body Injection
TC = torque converter
TCC = Torque Converter Clutch
TDC = Top dead center
TPI = Tuned Port Injection
TPS = Throttle Position Sensor (switch)
Tranny = Transmission
TV cable = throttle valve cable
VSS = Vehicle Speed Sensor
WOT = Wide Open Throttle


General Information

IIRC = If I remember correctly
PPH = Pounds Per Hour
TGFBA = Third Generation F-Body Association

why are there 2 b's in 4bbl and 2bbl?

four barrel has one b!
why not 2bbl
and 4bbbbl

bbl is the standard abbreviation for barrel, whether your talking about carbs, guns, or wine.
