Hey all, I have a 87 gta with an 8 point cage and subframes.

I just got a 5 point harness (RCI) latch. I have a moubt spot on the roll bar for the shoulder straps. I will use the factory seatbeat spots for the lap straps.

My question is where to mount the crotch strap on the floor. (yes i searched and couldnt find pictures or a good description.

There is a bump and rail in the floor pan between where the two front seat mounts are. Do you dril through this? weld to it. please help me out. I would love to get this done today.

Pictures appreciated if possible.

Technically, the crotch strap needs to be attached to the frame as well or a reinforced point like the lap belts have. Something coming off a SFC directly under the floor where the mount will be will work. I used to have a piece of 2x2x1/8" angle iron welded to the SFC. The belt mounting bolt went through the floor and the angle iron to give it a good solid mount. Another option which should pass tech is to mount the crotch strap similar to the way the roll cage is mounted. Weld a steel plate to the sheetmetal then attach the mounting tab to that. Just make sure it's in some sort of a straight pull position.

My new setup has a framework attached to the cage. The seat and belts attach to the framework and nothing is attached to the floor.

Simply mounting the belt tab through sheetmetal with big washers on both sides won't pass tech if they look at it hard enough.

 

Thank you sir. I was thinking either of those two ways. Should it tuck under the seat or is it okay to put it just under the front edge? what is straight pull position, like facing upward? thanks

 

You need to get a hold of a rule book. Both NHRA and IHRA say that the crotch strap must attach behind the chest line.

straight pull as in the belt loops under the seat and the mounting tab is in the same plane as the belts. You can't have it where the belt is horizontal and the mounting tab is vertical.

 

Doesn't racekraft make a bracket that bolts to the seat mounts that the crotch strap bolts to?
