Pop-up deletes that look good
I got my FX-R projectors and Philips 85122+ bulbs in today from TRS and I'm ready to start my project. Finally. Here's what I've been working on in AutoCAD for the past three months. First is output of ONE projector and bulb. Projector is setup about 125ft. from the wall. Crazy. Second pic is a screenshot of AutoCAD. I'm ready for comments!

Re: Pop-up deletes that look good
It's gonna be vacuum formed Lexan .093 thickness for the lens covers and the rest will be Optix brand polycarbonate about 1/4" thickness. Thanks for the encouraging words!

Update:
Got the rear support done, and the projector mount almost done. It still need holes for the adjusters. Pics:

Re: Pop-up deletes that look good
So I got the one side's mounting almost finished. I still need one bracket for the innermost radiator support mounting point.
Horizontal adjustment:
Vertical adjustment (top) and pivot (bottom):
This shows the smallest gap I could have to get the D2S connector on and off the bulb. The projector sat too far forward so I cut the back out of the support.
Starting point:
Almost finished. This is where I am stopping tonight:

UPDATE:
Night before last when getting output shots of it on the car, my new 5five ballast died. I emailed the guys over at TRS and I'm waiting for their response. In the meantime I'm using my old DDM 55w ballast. Anyway here are a few shots on the car. Third pic is a comparison of glare above the cutoff. No difference.

These show color flicker and high beam. Great purple to blue that the camera doesn't capture, and yes, that is the real difference in high beam performance.

Matt from TRS just emailed me back saying he will replace the ballast at no cost, and even pay for the shipping. That's customer service right there. Top notch. Hat's off to you, Matt.

I won't be working on this any more until after thanksgiving. Going out of town for the weekend so it will be a week before I can get back to this project. Hate being away from my car that long haha.

Subscribing! I've been searching for ways all year and emailing TRS just trying to think of how I want to run a projector set-up and if I want to do popup delete or not. Can't wait for your finished product.

Thanks. It's been a fairly easy project so far. I somehow got lucky and the rotation was spot on. Haha. The way I'm making these they are bolt on and have full adjustment. Vertical horizontal and rotation.

Looks really awesome! I just love the idea of projectors on these cars. Especially to delete the pop-ups. lol
Have you seen Blackenedbirds thread on TGO about his deletes? I took alot of his ideas when I went to sketching out what I might do.

First page is his first mold, second page is his current one which I really like

When and if I build a setup like this, definatley will be going with Morimoto Minis.

Off topic, my trip to Ft. Worth from Shreveport, the 2010 Camaro RS/SS A6 averaged 25.4 mpg with the cruise set on the speed limit the whole way.

Actually, I hate pop-up deletes. Takes away from part of what stands out about our cars. I do wish they came up lower, only about halfway. But not full pop-up deletes.

Re: Pop-up deletes that look good
Ahh okay. That had me a little confused. I am not a big fan of the lazy eye mod. I do agree with what people say about the pop ups are what make a firebird a firebird. I still like the challenge of deletes that are made to look like they were put there from the factory. That's a tall order to fill but I feel like I'm gonna end up with something that looks very good on the car.

Re: Pop-up deletes that look good
Got some updates. I'm using my phone and horrible signal because the internet has been down all week. I'm using the original pop up lids and black shrouds. All I have to do is mount them and I'll pretty much be finished. I'll try to get some pictures uploaded tomorrow. I'll have to use my phone to upload them to Facebook and them link them. I'll say this for now. They look sick on the car. And the FX-R projectors at 50w are overkill for city driving but on the backroads it is good to have. Stay tuned for some pictures.

So far I really like it, especially because no new cover has to be made. How much of the projector Actually shows through the opening. Can't wait to see mounted pics and lighted surface.

The Poly Motorsports pop-ups avoid this by using a clear cover.

I'm uploading a walk around video at the moment that shows them on the car and finished. The lids don't block any light whatsoever and they look stock for the most part. I should have a link up at the least by the end of today.

From that video I've got a few things to say
-Your car looks absolutley amazing and I love the rims
-That's one great sounding idle
-I like the combo of the 85-90 taillights with the 82-84 centerpiece, never seen that done before
-The color flicker is great with those projectors, what K did you go with?
-Seeing this video has made me 100% sure I want to literally imitate this projector set up, I love the fact how you were able to keep the stock headlight covers, looks totally OEM with the lights off
-Would you reccomend the FXR's over the Minis for any reason?
-What did you have to do for wiring in order to accomodate the D2S's?
Expect a PM from me in the near future with tons of annoying questions on any particular questions I may have about this setup. Lol

Re: Pop-up deletes that look good
Well first of all this made my day. I've never had someone so enthralled with my car and it feels great lol.
These are Philips 85122+ 4300k at 50w.
Having now used both the FX-R and the Mini D2S I recommend these for every reason imaginable.
Low beam power and ground goes to the ballast input. The high beam switch on the steering column has a jumper wire to keep constant power to the low side while high beam is activated. High beam power goes to the solenoids on the projectors.
Don't mind answering pm's at all man. I had many questions thru all this but had them answered by constant reading thru this and the hidplanet forum. Ask away bud! Haha.

Haha, you are very welcome. It's not all the time you see something like this done so well, and retain such a stock apperance. I'm thinking I'll shell out the extra 20 dollars or so for the FX-Rs if you really think they're worth it. One problem I saw with the mini's is that they didn't appear to seal all the way, whereas the FX-R looks like a totally enclosed unit. The only thing that worried me was that they are D2S. But that shouldn't really be a problem. I love hidplanet, lots of great info there. I'll probably start my retrofit in two-three weeks. Can't wait.

Re: Pop-up deletes that look good
I've seen that done on a few differernt birds here. What they essentially do is put a smaller size headlight, often applications intended for foglights, behind the headlight cover trim piece. Some wire it up so there are two differernt lights for hi/low. Cool concept but I LOVE the idea of having real HID projectors in the space instead.
