Custon center console fittings

Its killing me all the wasted space in 3rd Gens! Im trying to figure out a way to custom build a piece that goes from the center vents down to the ashtray. I was thinking of fiberglass maybe. I want it to go around the center vents and flow down in towards the radio/climate control area. That would create a whole new area for things like gauges and stuff. Possibly even an area to relocate the radio and/or climate control. Has anyone ever done this? Im not really a body person and havent molded anything ever. I have a few ideas but not sure if any would work. Ive searched all over and all I see is cupholder and gauges bolted onto the center vents. Right now I just threw together a small wood box and attached it to the little area above the radio for switches.
