Re: how about a 2 gen rear spoiler on a 3rd gen?

i left the angle the same as the 77. the trunk center section layed flat across the 92 lid and i just modified the end peices to fit 92 quarters. but i can let you know there was a lot of time put into this. i can give you ideas to get you started if you like

Oh my gawd. I have always wanted to do this, I love the spoilers off the 2nd gens, but never got the time to do it. Looks really good, much better then hawks 5in spoiler.

How much in all do you figure the project has costed?

Re: how about a 2 gen rear spoiler on a 3rd gen?

dont think it has costed me much cash wise ive done all the work my self so i have saved there.i dont have step by step pic's but i do remember the how two''

first off i removed the original spoiler
than removed the 77 spoiler
set the 77 on my 92, center section was twoshort to span the whole decklid but the ends over hung my decklid

so i bolted the 3 peices of the 77 together as a 1 peice unit

set it back on the car, marked where my deck lid body lines were where the new lines had to be cut so the lid would open

after that out came the saw!!

after i had the 1 peice unit back into 3 peices i then bolted the center section that was now long enough on to my deck lid

the end of the center section and the new end peices are now open so you will have to fill them in i used fiber glass

the end peices were the problem as you know the quarter panels are very different between the two

i used a hand grinder to keep cutting the edges back where it mated to the body until it matched up

this realy dident cost me any thing but my time and some filler & sand paper

i sure do like how it came out im glad my son sugested doing it!!!!!!!!

if anyone try's this and you you have any questions along the way just send me a message ill be glad to help you along

as for the hood all i have is a iroc hood with the louvers and i would rather not cut that up to put it on so i am searching for a stock flat hood (hint)

Re: how about a 2 gen rear spoiler on a 3rd gen?

I really like that! Def better than the Hawks 5"! I made mine years ago from a late 2nd gen TA and its not perfect. I couldn't get the side pieces to wrap around, cause it was from a TA so I glassed it onto the stock 3rd gen 3 piece spoiler. Always loved those ducktails spoilers and this was a couple years b4 the Hawks 5" came out.

Re: how about a 2 gen rear spoiler on a 3rd gen?

I've been working on a similar project, but with a second gen T/A spoiler for my Firebird. Not too far along so glad to see others have pulled it off.

Also, not to thread jack...but 86transamws6, I have the same wheels on my car, I know they are American Racings (only because of the center caps), but do you happen to know what model they are? They came on my car when I bought it and i have no info on them.

Re: how about a 2 gen rear spoiler on a 3rd gen?

I tried this out way before the hawks spoiler came along on my 85 firebird, back then i had amazing ideas but didnt really have the skills to pull it off. On the 91 i went with a hawks but have always thought of going back and trying to do the second gen spoiler just to say i finally did it lol.

Looks good, always loved the 2nd gen spoilers!!

You sure about the angle?

Here is my 2nd gen before I took it apart to paint it:

I agree(not saying yours looks bad at all). IIRC the hatch on a thirdgen is flat and the trunk on a second gen slopes down, so although they are both just sitting on the decklid the thirdgen is going to be steeper than the second gen because of the straight decklid.
