The baddest thirdgen iv ever seen in my life, amazing fab work!!
I just came across their facebook page with these pictures and thought you guys would appreciate all the time and custom fab work put into this car, just beautiful!
This car was built by Rad Rides by Troy, Inc and they just unveiled it at the Detroit auto show in Feb.

I asked about the hood and they said with the 100 hours into it it would cost 10 grand to make again. Heres some more pics of the same car...5th gen rear

Since when did Megatron turn into a camaro?

Would I do something like that myself (if i could..) no. but if for some reason it ended up in my possesion... I'd drive it for sure and build it. It looks to me like its just like a shell? I see like the exhaust exits but does it drive like it is? I do like the rims tho.

Re: The baddest thirdgen iv ever seen in my life, amazing fab work!!
It is a display of great skill in fabrication work.
If I remember (why does the thing pop up every few months?) correctly, all of the bodywork was done in sheet metal, which is awesome.
The part which is less awesome is the design.
It's very aggressive and interesting, but there is not a single area where I consider the Troy Customs car better looking then a stock Camaro (if that makes sense. In normal english, overall I prefer the stock Camaro bodylines).
That is pretty much a matter of personal taste however.

im not real big on the final outcome of it either. Months back i followed the build on their website and in its early stages it looked awsome, but as they added more and more I lost my liking for it

Wow. The same 3rd gen gets yet another thread for it. Despite this one being almost 2 years old from the very beginning of its build. I see people starting new threads about "discovering" the car, yet there are already threads about it.

from the side it looks cool... the front looks like a reverse cow catcher.. or a pincher bug.. the rear is horrible.. 100hrs in a hood and they make it look like a vented turbo hood???
the only thing interesting is the side exhaust exit and the interior rear X brace.. everything else is poo

I too had hope early on, the body is too angular for my liking. The rear of the car look like it had poor fit and finish. The tail lights look like some chinese knock off plugging the factoy holes since you can clearly see the shape of the original tail lights and the gaps did not look even from that view.
The fab work however is awesome. I can only imagine the man hours of metal fab in that thing to make it look like that without paint.

A waste of a 3rd gen in my opinion...Japan turns out crap thats already ugly enough to mod out with great fabrication skills...Just my $0.02. The metal work is awsome, but not on a 3rd gen.

The only thing I like about this is the way the exhaust was done. I also like the metal bumper, hate the design of in, but I want a stock looking steel one.
100 hours/10 grand for that hood? For such an ugly hood, no thanks... I can appreciate the work that went into the car, but it's not my style at all. I would NEVER drive that car, let alone pay that much for one.

This car took a lot of work. Personally Im not a huge fan and whoever told you that hood would cost $10000 to make is crazy. The hood is probably the easiest part. Its just a modified stock hood probably made from a mold of a stock hood and packing foam shaped to the desired look, laied fiberglass over it all and poped that out of the mold made. definately not $10,000. Not putting it down though this car took a hell of a lot of fab work

Lots of work? Sure. Skills? Yes. An improvement? No.
It looks retarded. Like a 4 year old drew up the design with a crayon.

There is nothing stock on the hood. Looking at the build pics on their site, the hood is all fabbed aluminum with CNC machined extractor vents. That took alot of skilled work.... The $10K price tag comes from the 100 hours it took to build it at their $100 an hour shop cost.

I don't usually say much about builds cause everyone deserves an opinion, but at some point, that build got out of hand. Crossed the line from hot rod to cartoonish.

Not a fan of incomplete cars at shows but I guess fab work would make up for it.

Im not gonna argue dude thats not why I replied. Theres no way in hell theres $10k into that hood and if there is, they got ripped off by a fab shop big time. I work with aluminun and fiberglass as well and thats way too high of a price. Some people like the car I guess, I think it looks rice, but the work involved is respectfull.

You can check out the build from the ground up by going to the link in one of the older threads started on this same car. Troy's Customs did this entire project, hood included, in house out of steel. Very impressive work if it just wasn't so ugly. It's obviously not done yet(no interior for one thing). Maybe it will look better with paint. BTW, it's no shell. It has a full rolling race chassis and suspension. From what I saw in the buildup, it looked like it's getting a twin turbo LSX from TPIS.

Re: The baddest thirdgen iv ever seen in my life, amazing fab work!!
I guess I'm in the minority. I really like some aspects of the car. There's something about the side profile, well at least the area between the wheels. I really really like the fender flares (and the other associated lines arn't too bad) and it appears to me that the whole car has been lowered, almost body dropped (looking at the trans tunnel). Like the door handles too.
The nose is hideous, as well as the rear and hood. With all that custom fab, the first thing I would have done would be to move the engine back and shorten the front overhang, not increase it by a foot! I'd love to build a custom third gen with an unlimited budget.

Amazing work but dont much like it. I do like the hood a bit but the cowl should be as wide as the headlight buckets.

I would take the daggers off the front, Remove the hood vent, make the cowl a little more suttle, Change the reare so it had more mass in the way of the thirdgen.
Positives I like the wheel archs those are very nicely done. The rockers and quarters are also enticing, the front end may be extremely tastful if the protrusions were dialed back, and the intrior seams to be coming along nicely.
There is a fineline between cartoons and lethal. Think Eleanor and Bat mobile. One gets chicks the other one scares the hell out of them or makes them laugh.

I like the hood and the front fenders (with the fade onto the door), but that is about it. I'm not a fan of the extended nose (what won't it smash into) and the rear wheels are huge and cartoon like - awesome wheel well work aside. Taillights are something I'm hatin on...

Batmobile? The front end is nice the Hood is fugly and the rear looks cheaply done. Needs better flow. But they do have mad skills.

Craftmanship is awesome. Looks not so much. I like the rear lights and rear air splitter. Other than that it's a big waste of allot of money.

I have about the same opinion as most on this thread. Looks like the guy who fabricated this has loads of talent, but I wish he would put a leash on it. I like the original design of the third gen car, and I bet lots of owners would agree. Tweaking is one thing; transforming is another. Looks over done to me.

Its very artistic, who knows what they were thinking. To do what they did took great talent. Its all about craftmanship. Regaurdless the outcome, from an artistic stand point i think it was well excecuted than others i have seen.

How did they come up with the idea to give the Camaro a fu man chu, they could of put a lot better work into this, mostly I dont like the front, rear, hood, they could of went with something a little more original than 5th gen tail lights and filled the body lines so it didn't look like (someone stated earlier) a rice burner universal drop in, even Batman would be saying "what the hell!?".

I agree! I guess the reason they put it in the show was just to showcase the fab work. There is no paint, no primer, and no body filler on this car. It's just bare metal! Leonardo DaVinci was once asked, while at a party, to prove he was the best artist in the world. In response, he drew a perfect circle on a piece of paper. (Thats nearly impossible to do, freehand.) I guess that was their point.
I'm not a fan of this car and would venture to say, that the owner is not a thirdgen fan, as the car only barely resembles a thirdgen.
