Re: see through hood
I assume you mean adapting a stock hood with see-thu plexiglass in place of the fake iroc louver vents? Doesnt seem too hard. Cut out the vent area in the hood, spot weld in some mounting points underneath, and cut and mount the plexiglass with a foam rubber surround to seal it all up. Probably good for a show car, but I dont think it would be practical on a daily driver. The plexiglass would get brittle and crack from the heat.

Re: see through hood
Pretty neat idea. Except, as mentioned, plexiglass would not work. You can do this, and have it as a daily driver. The answer is polycarbonate. Ever seen the Corvette ZR1's partially see through hood? It's polycarbonate.

Go for it if you can get your hands on some polycarbonate, and have the know how, or a deep wallet. I had the idea of having a Ram Air 2 style cowl hood made, basically the Ram Air 2 profile from the side, and imagine it closed up in the front, to become a cowl. Since I don't like the straight edges of most cowls available, and the Sunoco hood isn't too much better, I asked around about a custom hood. Let's just say the quote I got, due to the hours upon hours of labor involved, was more than what I paid for my IROC. Half of what I paid for my GT.

Re: see through hood
Damn! even though it's against the code of the camaro I'll say it anyways that mustang looks bada$$.
I suppose a see-through hood would be cool if you had a good looking engine, but if you got your 200k mile engine with oil residue and dry-rotted vacuum lines it may not be worth it. So I'll throw my hat in the show car only pile.

Re: see through hood
i think the see through hood looks silly on any car. I love the zr1, but not the hood window.

I'll have to watch what I post, I guess. I found that on Google, and posted it since it related to the topic of a see through hood. Not to break any "Camaro codes".

Re: see through hood
I'd actually consider that if I had an old 5.0. But since it's a relatively newer car with less than 100K on the clock, I'll just stick with the 4.6. A company called On 3 Performance makes single turbo kits for Mustangs which make some really good power. 440 RWHP 496 RWTQ on an otherwise 100% stock 2002 GT at only 10 PSI.
An LS1 can make that power N/A, but that's always another project for a GM car. I'm actually not too big of a fan of putting a GM engine in a Ford or vice versa. I know a lot of the guys on here would be pissed if someone took an old 305 project car, and swapped in a 600 horsepower 521 C.I. big block Ford crate engine.
I only bought it to have a good sounding, good looking daily driver, that still has some decent power to it, and a 5 speed to make it fun. Even though the TR3650 5 speed isn't standing up to my shifting. 2nd gear synchro is going out, so I'll end up swapping in an 03-04 Cobra T56. I guess I shift too quickly for my own good. Which is odd, because when I'm not playing around, I treat the trans nicely. I even rev match when I downshift to save some synchro wear.
I'll probably just end up buying another daily driver, a truck or a diesel VW Jetta. Then one of these years I'll finally be able to get to work on the 383 build for the IROC, and still have the Mustang as another weekend car. The 50+ MPG of a diesel Jetta seems nice right now too, compared to the Mustang's 20 some MPG.

There is a TGO Member who made IROC hood louver inserts out of 1" thick Lexan. I forget who, but the pics are here somewhere.

I think it was done that thick to prevent any warping, is what he said
I've been Searching since posting, but can't find the post about it.

Re: see through hood
Actually, what I'd like to see in a Mustang is the V10 from the F250. I chose to go the other way for my daily and went with an old man's car. A gold Olds Alero.
BTW there is a guy on here with a BBF powered Firebird.

Re: see through hood
I think that would look better with a polished or painted TPI intake manifold or an underhood roots/screw supercharger. Not a fan of the daytona hood either but that hood still looks kinda cool.

Re: see through hood
im using plexi for my louvers. im not finished, but mine will not be removable. the blue tape in the second pic is so when i add resin to my scoop, it doesnt get on the plexiglass.

Re: see through hood
Yeah that's my car, you can thank Eric for sending me the link to this thread since I don't visit tgo that much anymore.
It's half inch plexi cnc machined to fit the hood, took forever, has a 1/4 lip which makes it sit level with the hood, had a ram air II that flew up on me in a race so I got this hood but I hated louvers so I came up with that, the cars got a new motor so it looks differ under the hood 355 with a s475 Borg Warner turbo and all the good stuff.
Have anymore questions? Easier to contact me where Eric suggested then here
Have a good one fellas.

Re: see through hood
I've seen that. Mustve been almost 10 years ago, my dad and I went out to a car show in canyon city here in colorado. There was this guy with a 1967 mustang fastback rocking a v10. It looked sick. Its like the only car I remember there besides my dads 4th gen. I was 8 lol.
