Fuel tank baffle

Anyone have any pictures of a stock tank cut open? I"m curious how GM baffled it.

I'm doing an EFI conversion. I've been considering welding a sump to the tank, but the angle of the tank in the vehicle means the sump will only be effective really on launch. If I attempt to put the sump at the forward part of the tank (lowest) I feat it might get torn off.

In any event, I'm curious how the general did it.

Re: Fuel tank baffle

drill 5 holes in the bottom of the tank like a dice would have on it and weld the sump in the bottom rear ward most area in the center. That will be a poor mans baffle, either way you can't run the tank nearly dry because in a turn it'll become uncovered and you'll suck air.

That is what I was going to do, but for example if you look at this picture the sump ends up being even with the bottom of the tank, not exactly lower. If I were to put it forward in the low position I think it would get ripped off.

Re: Fuel tank baffle

my jegs sump is definitely the lowest part of my tank setup, that pic is possibly just a weird angle. I cut off both -8 fittings and ran a -10 though on my setup. I'd weld in the largest fitting you think you'll ever need before welding it to the tank. What is this ripped off comment about? Maybe I'm not understanding you, but if your tank ever touched the pavement the rear end would have to be missing first.

If you look at the picture more closely, it's not a thirdgen. It's a second gen. The axle is in front of the tank. The tank is way behind. The way the tank is angled, the back part rises up on an angle to meet the rear valance panel.

So these guys put the sump in the back which is probably fine for drag racing, but it's not any lower than the front of the tank is (lowest spot) so I'm not sure how well it will work for cornering or stopping. I'm weary of sumping the lower part of the tank because I think it will hang down to the point where a speed bump might grab it.

Or maybe it's just me...

Re: Fuel tank baffle

Still curious if someone has a pic of the inside of a thirdgen tank baffle setup.

Re: Fuel tank baffle

My friends second gen has a fuel cell in the trunk, much better option for you then, she had a 15 gallon and now a 8 gallon in there.
