Hood underside detail

Anyone got pics of the underside of their hood detailed? I think I saw a pic on here years ago someone had cut a reflector type material and put it under the hood.

Re: Hood underside detail

I have a friend that owned a 2002SS Camaro. He used to wax/buff/detail his underside of the hood on that car. It was actually really clean looking. Our cars have an insulation blanket that is on the bottom. Mine does anyway.

I too would like to see some nice pics here, so I'm subscribing. I also have the insulation, but don't like it - it's just seen it's better days. But on the flip side, I'm afraid to remove it since I just got painted, and I'm worried that the heat will do harm to the paint.

What about using the silver noise-deadening material that everyone lines their interior with, or something along those lines, to have a clean underhood without sacrificing paint?

Looking forward to pics and ideas

Re: Hood underside detail

That "insulating blanket", as it has been referred to, primary purpose is not to insulate!

It's main purpose is more fire safety related.

Those big plastic clips that hold it on the hood works as a thermocouple of sorts.
You see if the engine ever catches on firethose big plastic clips are designed to snap in half when heated to a point.
That "blanket" is supposed to fall on the engine and smother the fire!
It melts and covers the top part of the engine.

If it insulates the hood, that is a "by the way it does this too....." type of thing.

I do not know about the camaro hoods, but the GTA/TA styled hoods have a non concentric support design, and it doesn't give a smooth appearance when that "blanket" is not covering it. (in my opinion)

I am considering making a piece of aluminum (thin) and getting it painted to match the car. Possibly getting a "bird" painted on it as well.

The main concern is not making the hood too heavy where the hood shocks will not keep it up.
