custom transmission crossmember?
im buying long tube headers and i have the 700r4, the problem is once installed the exhaust would have to go under the transmission crossmember. they dont have any after market crossmembers to fix this problem so i was wonder if its possible to cut the crossmember and weld some thick metal strap in a u shape so the pipes go straight back. would it still have good enough strength for all the torque?

Re: custom transmission crossmember?
your best bet would probaly be to use a peice of pipe cut in half and weld that to the crossmember

Re: custom transmission crossmember?
There have been posts showing pictures of fabricated tranny crossmembers including ones that loop over exhaust pipes. The floor of a third gen is terrible for a simple crossmember design. It's not a simple "tube from side to side" type of design.
The crossmember is holding up a lot of weight. Just don't make a flimsy design.

Do you know where those posts are exactly that would help alot, or do you have any suggestions on to what could be a better design because i have only seen the ones where they do it in the U shape with 3/4 inch pieces of metal. have you seen any other designs other than that one??

Will make a nicer one now that I'm swapping in a 4L80E.
