Merry Christmas Camaro, K member, Pinto Rack, Torque arm YEY!

Well this Christmas the Camaro got more presents than I had ever anticipated. I finally dropped it off to have the spring perches welded to my K member, pinto rack and K member installed, V6 springs are being cut and installed, a new torque arm is getting fabbed up and moved to the trans crossmember; and finally while I was dropping the car off at the shop I purchased a full set of Weld Draglite's for the car! It's going to be sitting on 15X10's in the rear, 15X4's in the front and the draglites already have a set of Hoosier 26 10.5's installed! The car's supposed to be done within the month and to round everything out and really put it over the top I picked up 2 new NX Lightning series solenoids! I'll be sure to post up pics of the K member fab work, torque arm, nitrous setup, and all the goods along with new times as soon as the new season starts up.

What kind of weight savings do you think you achieved?

Re: Merry Christmas Camaro, K member, Pinto Rack, Torque arm YEY!

I pulled the rims off of the car they were on today, those alone are going to net me at least 60 pounds of weight mostly off the front of the car. The K member weighs less than 1/2 what the stock one does and the stock one with springs and A arms is over 100 pounds. I'm hoping for 29XX pounds race weight with this stuff done to it. It sits at 3200 pounds now but I've got a few other things to change if this doesn't get me there.

doubt it'll get you there. You'll have to remove a lot more stuff to get to the 2900s

Yey for pics, here're the rims, the last one is on the Malibu they came off of, other 2 are of the front and rears. Tires are Hoosier 26X8.5X15's with the D06 compound, fronts are generic metric's that're about 26in tall.

Here's a link to the stock glass hood I found in a junkyard, still needs the 2000 layers of spray paint stripped and some enamel paint laid on it.

The new solenoids, these things are absolutly awesome!

I'll have to go out and get some pics of the K member and such as soon as there's some progress on it.

There is a thread around here somewhere about 2800 pounds raceweight, I'm sure you've seen it. I don't recall the exact title but it has to be 5 or 6 pages by now with several ideas.

Re: Merry Christmas Camaro, K member, Pinto Rack, Torque arm YEY!

Yes I've posted on it several times, that's where the pics of my K member and A arms are and a few of the ideas on weight reduction were mine. Unless my math is off I should be right on the verge of sub 3000 pounds. The only other mod I can really think of to do right now would be to install a cage and cut out the crash bars in the door, or install a lightweight battery (which I have).

Damn, I'm at 2860 with a stock suspension and Iron heads. It doesn't take that much to get there, just depends on how far you want to go.

Re: Merry Christmas Camaro, K member, Pinto Rack, Torque arm YEY!

Well the car is totally gutted. My dash and door panels are made out of styrofoam, cardboard and carpet. Together they weigh all of ten pounds. All unneeded thinigs from underneath the hood are gone. A/C, Smog, radio with all speakers and wires,Heater and Heater core with all hoses and wires, All A/C ducts, I even gutted my wiring harness for just the bare essentials. I have a factory SMC hood that I just finished I even pulled about 3 pounds of steel out of it and cut out holes in the bottom skeleton to free up another 2 pounds. so it only weighs 35 pounds. 16x8 GTA wheels. I'll post up some pics tomorrow if it doesn't rain. check this thread fora pic of the engine.

Re: Merry Christmas Camaro, K member, Pinto Rack, Torque arm YEY!

That engine bay looks good! I'll be able to do that here soon with mine, what type of bracketry did you use and what belts? Since I'm going to be pulling the power steering pump soon and I have no AC it would now be viable to set my engine bay up that way. I have the Heater only box, and my MSD is in a different spot than yours, but I've already dropped the 2 large resevoirs and went with a smaller catch can.

Re: Merry Christmas Camaro, K member, Pinto Rack, Torque arm YEY!

Well the car is supposed to be fully done tommorow. The bad thing is I just got surgery done on monday so I'm laid up HARD. I'm still going to try and head out and get pics of the car and drive it home. He ended up fabbing up new mounts for the coilover setup that rides on a perch below the strut tower, and fabbed up a torque arm and possibly a new mount (I haven't been able to talk to him since late yesterday). Anyways we'll see how it goes and if I am in good enough shape to drive her tommorow I'll stop by the truck scales and see what it weighs
