how much balls does a 305 have?

how much ***** does a 305 have?
i have an 82' z28 with a 305 and 3 spd automatic, a friend of mine has an 85' z28 with a 305 and 5 spd standard, both of us can't seem to be able to lay a nice clean burnout, now the driver can only be one part of the problem (especially in an automatic), my question is should a 305, ehich is pretty much stock, be able to lay rubber? any comments would be appreciated because i'm soon going to be doing a tranni change to a 5 spd manual because my trani's starting to slip and i'd kinda like to know if that will help my performance out a bit

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
sure, you can lay some rubber...powerbrake it haha, but no, i have a stock 305 with a 3 spd plus o.d. trans, and i cannot get it to lay out rubber jsut by flooring it, i'm sure if you did some nice mods to it, you could or you could just build a 350 for it...that would certainly get the tires i'm sure...maybe an lsx?

Throw some oil on the ground and that should cure the o'le 305's esteem issues.

I'm kind of curious about this topic. I have a 305 TBI stock cams/heads and if I punch it from a stop it leaves a long patch of rubber (albeit one side ). It even chirps second when doing this. I can also get the rear end to slip if I punch it around a corner.

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
My 86 T/A has an LG4 305 and 700R4. The only thing done to it
is an intake and exhaust. My current 700r4 is garbage and the motor's
got 199,000 miles on it. On a good day, even with the limp-wristed
P/U truck 700r4 cutting loose between the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, the old bird
will lay down 10-15ft of rubber. Granted it is a peg leg burnout, but I can do it from a standstill w/o power braking and she's got 2.73's gears!
My car wouldn't do it with 245/50-16's, but I could smoke 215/65-15's right off of the hoops.

fast355 can a 7747 run a 4.3 TBI v-6? and what kind of chip would be well suited for it with vats and full emmisions?

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
The 7747 was the factory ECM for thousands of 4.3 engines. Look in the 1988-1992 astro/safar van and fullsize vans with the 4.3. Most of the S-series trucks had ECMs that were coded different than the 7747. The 7747 does not use VATs. VATs is simply a module that inputs a signal into an ECM such as the 8746 to turn on the fuel flow from the injectors. If the ECM does not require the signal, you don't need to worry about VATs.

On my carbed 305 before I pulled it, I was able to powerbrake in 2nd gear with a T5 behind it, 3.27 gears, and it spun both. Lots of smoke from the 235's.... Was never able to click 3rd though.

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
TPI, carb, and well tuned TBI should put some impressive rubber down. I went from TBI to holley 650 double pumper, I don't leave any rubber on concrete without using the brake. But on black top roads I can punch the gas from dead stop and roast the tires as long as I want. I've had a hard time getting traction at the strip with stock tires. They squeal a bit off the starting line, but I think my locker is worn out.

Depends. If you consider 16 second stock 1/4 miles ballsy, they have *****. LOL. Regardless, even my LG4 305 will power brake (but then again, power braking shouldn't take too much HP)

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
With a manual trans you can do a burnout with a 2.8, which is probably the weakest V6 ever made. It's all about getting power to the tires abrupt enough to break static friction. Once a tire is spinning against the pavement, it takes less power to keep it going.

doing burnouts/ spinning the wheels doesn't require alot of power... just lack of traction. A shitty suspension can also make you spin the wheels more. put some bald tires on there and you'll be slipping all over the place. It can be fun at times... but doesn't prove anything in way of how powerful the car is. Fast cars are looking to keep traction, not lose it.

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
I can honestly say after swapping to a L98 with TBI verses my original LG-4 there is no comparison at all. maybe the later larger cam 305's are different but the peanut cammed 305's will always be slow. My L-98 would leave my original 305 sitting still and theres really nothing special about it. all it has is LO-3 TBI system and a 5.7 exhaust system.Sadly though gas prices and my long commute are ending it's existance under the hood.

oh and BTW you can do a burn out in a tractor with a manual trans, some of us are doing this with autos.... now if you are going to run it at the track then dump the crapy 305 or 350 and get you a 400 or something

if you have trouble laying rubber it's driver error. my 92 305 tbi 5spd lays it thick w/out brakes, even my 92 2.8 s-10 could chirp 3rd w/245's all around, even my 91 sunbird 3.1 front drive could lay it down.......all about breaking traction

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
hey, starterof the thread here, im thinkin one of my biggest problems is my trani, czu i'v got the 3 spd auto and its deff. starting to slip (my reverse hardly even works ne mroe) so im in the process of swapping in a t-5, manual from a 84 camaro i just bought for $250...hopefully this will help me out a bit, but another problem might b the fact the i have brand new 235/60/15 's on this car that are giving some good traction but my dad and step dad(who are both car guys) think it should still lay rubber and they've tried and can't get anything out of it either but hopefully this trani will help a bit and im deffinately gunna look into my cam, a couple fo yuo guys were talkin bout 'peanut cam' vs the bigger cam, thanks everyone lol, and keep the posts comin

Me and my friend measured it, 1st gear lasted 200ft and 2nd spun for another 75ish. Almost from telephone pole to pole. No brake used either.
And its mostly stock, mods are as below
Transgo Shift Kit in 700r4
AC Delete
Punched out Cat
Air Intake (flipped filter cover over to let more air in, and got rid of vapor arrestor.)
And its an LG4

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
One wheely peelies are very easy to do because when one rear tire is spinning, the spider gears are giving you a 2.0 multiplication over when both tires are spinning. If you can bust a one wheel peel tire loose, the wheel speed will be twice that of if you were spinning posi style, so it will blow it away easy. A posi will make it much harder to spin the tires (GOOD!). I have an LG4 car that will blow away the 3.42 one legger, but that doesn't make up for the fact that it is an outright slow *** car.

Well my 305 isnt that slow at all. As it stand I think it could probably be in the 15.3-15.6 second range, I know its not fast, but its not slow either.

I'm guessing mid to low 13's with my little 305 and it easily lays rubber with 275/40's on the rear.
Heres a fun little video; http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...71967&q=iroc-z

my old 91 with a 305 tbi could burn out so good, it had the 700r4, when you held the brake and let her loose you would have quite the smoke show, but on my 82 lg4 with my 4 speed stick, i could barely get tire smoke unless if i dumped the clutch at 5k at least.

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
My 305 with an LT1 cam, ignition, Magnaflow exhaust, manifolds, aluminum shaft, slippign like a **** auto, 3.42 gears and drag radials will chirp a bit (4 - 5ft).With the old tires we put on it, it just spun till i let off.
Oh, and ever with sticky as **** tires, if it turned a little, it would peel untill i let off the gas.
I know theres a video somewhere here. My buddy john's Stock 305. Just a cam and intake, and a nos shot. Spanking a viper. think it was a 300 shot of nos. The thing ran 11.7 on a stock 305 long block with a peanut cam.
All it needs is an energy drink and their ***** drop

i like to think that ground type affects whether or not you leave rubber. that being said mine leaves an awsome smoke show without pbing it. on 235/55/16's. even when i put brand new tires on.

Re: how much ***** does a 305 have?
Ive got an 87 IROC with a stock 305 TPI, stock 700R4, 2.73 gears with limited slip, and 245-45-16's.
All I can do is put it in 1 and squel the tires for about a second. Then it plants you in the seat and goes.
