Ashtray Switch panel, Lots of pics and diagrams
*Note* This is for the 85-92 FIREBIRD console
82-84 Firebird may or may not fit, I dont have any consoles to test this on
Will NOT fit camaros
Ok This is what you start with
This is what you need
Installed
With switches, please note that the left most area is taken up by the underside gear mechanism so no switchs can be mounted here
Closed and switches cleared
Bolt that holds it in place, be careful to drill it in between the switches so you dont put the screw right into a switch terminal
View of the console and inlet for the wires
CAD of the piece needed
Dimensions, I used a section of composite handrailing left over from a carpentry job
There ya go!

Hmm, very slick, thanks for the info!
Just a tip though, i'd wire the heated O2 to ign power. I've heard NOT running power to it while the car is running ruins it very quickly. Same with the coolant fan, use a thermal switch and you don't need a toggle switch. Don't get me wrong, I love having more buttons and switches in my car but only when needed
I'd use it for my line lock, maybe a coolant fan override.....

Re: Ashtray Switch panel, Lots of pics and diagrams
I have ZERO splices on my cars electrical system
I use the factory junction block near the battery whenever I draw power to a new thing
This block is 12v HOT at all times
I hit the O2 switch once I crank the car and when I shut it off
As for my coolant fan, Ive been running a switch since I burned up 2 fan sensors and almost overheated a few times
Little over 2 years, I only changed the plate because the first set of switches melted

Why bother with a switch then- wire it to the ignition like it was said and never worry about it.

Id say run the Fan thru a thermal switch like said also but Its nice to have a switch to override and keep it on for when the car is parked in the pits cooling off in between runs.,

Re: Ashtray Switch panel, Lots of pics and diagrams
i built one for my car 84 trans am, the lid doesn't shut, but other than that it's great. used the stockash tray, cut out the bottom, leaving just the rim and about 1/8 inch of material sticking down, the used 1/16 in sheet and tack welds on the corners,

pocket - how long that hold up? I had something similar in my camaro - 4 switches - the auto linkage went right by my wires - long story short, wires broke free...guy I bought the car from had a power wire there I had reused, assumed it was fuse - stupid assumption ..almost got messy for my baby. Have any issues w/clearance?

No issues with the wires hitting the shifter parts, I zip tied them out of the way
