reduce weight..?

I was wondering why this 3rd camaro is kinda
slow comparing to some import cars..

first thing I thought was the probably the weight.
camaro probably weights like 3+ tons where
car like civic is probably 2 or less(my guess)

so if I wanted to reduce weight in my car,
whats the best way besides me losing some weight?

I was also wondering if fiberglass hood is ligher than
stock hood material?(if so by how much approx?)
----------
aw ****.. I meant to post this on v6 section,
but oh well sorry

Yep, too small of an engine for too heavy of a car. The 3.1 makes what close to 170 chp rated from the factory? Alot of imports are going to be close to 140chp, and a B series swaped civic will be close to 2200lbs with atleast 140hp. So only another 30 to move around 1200-1400 more lbs, you see where you end up on the bad side of things. LOL dont mess with the swaped CRX's, the old 89 HFs only weighed 1800lbs after the swap, and thats before they remove anything else from the car.

V8 cars are usually in the 3400-3500 range, the V6 cars can be around 3200…

There are tons of posts on weight reduction and yes the fiberglass hood weighs less than a metal one by a substantial margin.

I don't think weight reduction is the answer. You need more power out of that v6!

with an engine that small, weight reduction does matter.

With anything weight reduction matters. There's probaby 200 pounds to be taken out of a Camaro without doing anything crazy.

Car: 87 bird
Engine: enough to break stuff
Transmission: manual th400
Axle/Gears: 4.10
my V6 firebird was a little over 3000Lbs., i think 2.8 was 150hp., 3.08 gears, and 700r4.

the 02 neon i had was 2300 lbs, 140hp, and 5spd with @3.50 FDratio

i put a 305 and some weight reduction and other ugrades the best i could do was 10.4 1/8th with the firebird, the neon did 10 flat out of the box.

thats when i made the decision to go crate engine.
