Making shift **** adapter

I had an issue where I own a hurst shifter, but bought a nice SLP H leather wrapped shift ****. The SLP **** used the big **** GM thread. Problem solved.

On the lathe, took a solid peice of alum, and first cut it down to .620" round.

Then, threaded the outside with 18 threads per inch.

Then cut it down to .614

Tapped the inside to my shifter, which happened to be 3/8-24

Done!

BTW... it started as a stainless steel bolt (only partly threaded). I cut off the head of the bolt, and cut the threaded end off the shifter, and welded the two together. After that pic, I cleaned it up some more, then painted it silver. In the above pic, its unpainted, bare metal.

Its a 1/2"-20 thread. Its now got a Hurst T-Handle on top and it looks great. Feels really cool to have the shifter slightly curved back, and makes it alot easier to play with my CD player

I did the opposite with my shifter. Since most stock shafts are so narrow and do not have the same girth as a GM pieces (don't laugh) I drilled and tapped mine as well. Why are GM shifter shafts so much thicker than everyone elses.
