1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

I haven't had any success at all with the couple individual threads I've made, for only a few parts, so I'm putting everything in one thread.

For the longest time I've wanted to build my IROC into a bare bones street/strip car. Fiberglass doors/lexan, pin-on fiberglass hood, no AC or heat, no radio, etc. So I'm finally going to attempt to just sell pretty much every stock part. Doors, hood, maybe the hatch, might trade the T tops if you have some lexan tops sitting around, plus all interior parts I have left, etc etc.

I'm going to try to make this as organized as possible, with prices for everything, and pictures for almost everything. Also, since almost everything I'll be putting up for sale is either very heavy or bulky, I'm not shipping. I'm in a pretty convenient place for pick up if you're anywhere on the east coast, in Delaware. Not too far from the north east, not too far from the south. So, expect to drive, or be close to Delaware.

Here we go.

The car: 1986 IROC-Z28 with 99K original miles, so all of my stuff is in pretty decent shape. Here are some exterior pictures since I'm selling the stock IROC hood, the doors which will include electric motors and glass.

Alright, so onto the actual list of items & prices.

Doors (There's a slight ding on the passenger door from me being clumsy and turning around while holding a broom) with electric windows, and glass included - $400 They're $500 a set used on Hawks, so it's a very fair price. Plus mine include good glass, locks, no interior door panel though. EDIT: I will be keeping the mirrors, so I'll lower the price to $350, accordingly.

Hood - (Also has a small ding on it) IROC hoods go for $250 used on Hawks, I only want $150.

Hatch - I really don't want to get rid of it just yet, more of a trade item. This is a 1986 specific item due to the CHMSL mounting holes in the hatch glass. I'll trade for a hatch that does not include glass, and $50 on your end. (I want a hatch without glass so I can use lexan)

Moving on to the interior parts.

Upper and lower console, console lid, AC & heat controls, AC & heat/radio trim plate, shifter plate for automatic cars, front and rear ashtray - $200 for everything. I had this listed on another thread, but I'll also post up pictures of it on this thread. Console is black with grey carpeting on the lower console.

Black arm rests - $80 for the pair. These things are pretty much mint. Pulled out of the car going on two years ago, and they've sat in my house since.

Pretty much a full set of grey interior plastics. Hatch pull down motor cover, hatch area wheel well plastics, the two lower backseat area plastics, headliner trim plate, black carpet panels that cover the backseat speakers, front kick panels. 11 pieces in all - $220 for everything.

A full set of grey cloth seats. Power driver seat which will include all of the motors that work, manual passenger seat, the two foam backseats, and backrest - $300 for the complete set. They're really nice seats for being 25 years old. Just need a cable for the manual passenger seat, but I am letting them go very cheap.

Pictures of pretty much everything coming in a couple of minutes, when I sort everything out.

Couple more:

Small crack close to the mounting tab, but barely noticeable, and cannot be seen when console is bolted in.

There's a small stain on one of the seats, no wider than an inch though.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

I neglected to take some detailed pictures of the rear seats, I'll take some if anyone has any interest.

Here are a couple of some of the interior panels:

Drivers side interior panel has a stain on it, probably just grease. Don't know, it's been there for about 3 years, and was there when I bought it. I'll have an extra key made for the locking storage area if the interior panels sell.

The backseats and rest of the interior panels are in this mess.

So, with all of that said, PM me with any questions. I really want to sell some of my parts, since they're taking up so much room, and I could put the money towards stroking out the IROC to a 383. Thanks for checking everything out.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

I'm only selling anything that's listed. So, it's not really a complete part out. I'm pretty much keeping the body, drivetrain, fuel system, etc. I'm attempting to sell off all of these stock parts, so I can run fiberglass doors, a fiberglass hood, Kirkey aluminum seats, a couple 5 point harnesses, etc.

I did forget one thing though. A complete set of seatbelts.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

Also, if anyone wants my spoiler, the one in the pictures, I'll take 30 for it. One of the side pieces cracked, but whoever wants to buy it can just have them anyway. It's probably repairable, but I have a newer third brake light spoiler. The main spoiler is fine, in perfect condition, it's just one of the side pieces that chipped.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

Come on, someone has to want something. Especially the doors, $350 is a steal for two electric doors that are in decent shape. Not to mention the full set (front and rear) of grey cloth seats with only 99K on them for $300, which includes a power driver seat with all electric motors.

You said you're planning on trading the hatch so are you selling the high mounted third brake light?

Yes. There are a few small things I forgot. I wanted to sell the big items first, mainly the doors, hood, seats, and other interior panels. Just to make some space.

I actually painted it a while back, then decided not to use it.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

How much for the brake light then? IF you can ship to Sweden / Europe. I'm more interested in the condition of the red semi transparent plastic / lens than the black cover. I have the cover for my 86 but the lightbulbs were wrong so it melted the red plastic / lens during a cruising ( lots of standing still with brake light on )

It's not a heavy or bulky item, but I'm just not messing with shipping. It usually fails every single time for me, because it's a 60 mile round trip to the nearest Fedex place, and local shipping places like to charge outrageous rates due to that.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

I'd rather try to sell everything in person. It's a huge waste of gas and time to run back and forth to look for boxes for every little item, then run out and get quotes.

I'll consider shipping when I can get the big stuff sold. Doors, the full set of seats, hood, the interior panels.

Sure, it'd be nice to get at least two things sold. A little town called Ellendale, only 40 miles north of O.C.

It's not exactly for sale, but hey, feel free to throw me an offer. It's in pretty good shape, no cracks. I just sanded the letters down a little tiny bit when I painted it.

Also, for anyone with 91-92 Z28 hood blisters, I'd trade my IROC hood for them. They're a pretty pricey item, so I'd let my whole hood go for just blisters that are in good shape.

Or not. Who is going to want to pay $100+ worth of freight shipping for something like doors? I don't need money, I just want it. So, I'll hold out until people on the east coast want to pick some stuff up from me.

Nope, bought it without one. I do however have the headliner trim plate for a T top car, that goes in back of the headliner, basically over top of the back seat.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

Save up man, there are a lot of decent cars out there at really cheap prices. That's how I scored my Mustang for only 6,200. A year or two ago, that was a lot less than what they were going for stock. Just the 18" FR500 wheels and tire combo I bought mine with were around 1,200 through AmericanMuscle.com, got it with leather seats, Mach 460 sound system, plus everything else mentioned in my sig except for the SCT Livewire tuner and BBK O/R X pipe. Bought those myself. Now I don't know what to do. The IROC is completely gutted, ready for paint, and ready to have the 350 pulled and stroked out to a 383 depending on which block I have now. With any luck it'll be an 010 casting factory 4 bolt block.

I'm just torn between buying a bike, a truck, getting to work on the IROC, or doing a T56 swap and a turbo setup on the Mustang. A daily driver with a 6 speed and 400+ RWHP would be very impractical, but neat. I think with the way gas is now, 3.45 just for regular here, I'll buy a bike. Probably a 2004-2006 Yamaha R1. 30+ MPG and 10 second quarter miles.

Anyhow, the grille is actually something I'll mess with shipping with, since it's small, light, and not as brittle as something like the louvers. It's been a long time since I painted it, and you'd need to go over it with some really fine grit sandpaper, and do a final coat of trim paint, but it did come out very nice. You can use the same stuff I did, like 5 bucks a can from autozone. Just regular exterior trim paint.

Hawks sells them new at almost $100 a pop, so I'll let mine go at a fifth of that. $20 + shipping.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

thats exactly what im in the process of trying to do. and honestly in my opinion id get the bike. i had a 1999 yamaha R1 when i was 17 and i sold it, ive regreted it ever since. theres nothing like that freedom of the open road on a motorcycle (cruiser OR sport bike) but thats just my opinion on that lol

i already expected to paint a grille if i bought one so that dosent dissapoint me. 20 bucks + shipping sounds good to me my zip is 33324. ill be getting paid tuesday. so that would be the best time for me to pay. if you cant hold it till then its cool i understand but if you still have it, you have a buyer.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

Yeah, I miss bikes. I had an '03 YZ250 two stroke. That was an incredibly quick bike. 0-60 in about as fast as you could shift through all 5 gears. I didn't have much done, just jetted and a Pro Circuit slip on pipe.

Sold it in 2008.

The problem with making a decision for me is, the roads of Delaware. I love the Mustang, but I'm absolutely sick of having to go around speed bumps, make a decision whether I can get into some driveways, watch out for pot holes constantly. So that is what's making me want a truck, along with the cool factor of a Cummins diesel. But then again, I would not be looking forward to the insurance, or under 20 MPG. Most Cummins owners seem to average 13-14 MPG with combined city and highway driving.

A bike seems like my best bet. Some R1 riders claim close to 40 MPG. It'd be like killing two birds with one stone. An incredibly fast bike, and gas mileage, with money leftover this year to turbo the Mustang and aim for 400 RWHP since '04-'06 R1's typically go for around 6K. Found a guy that wants 10 grand for his bike, just because it has the pricey Akrapovic Evo exhaust system. Kind of funny. That's what you get out of modding though, enjoyment, not resale value.

At least I wouldn't scrape with an R1, they sit up pretty high for bikes.

This is just not too good of a daily driving combo though. Lowered about 2 inches, with a very low hanging BBK offroad X pipe.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

Also, the grille, I'm glad you expected to paint it. It's been sitting out in the garage in front of the IROC probably since I painted it last year. I forgot that I sanded it back down for a final coat, then left it alone. I'll stop at a grocery store or whatnot today to find a box, and stop at the post office for a quote.

Should be easy enough. It's roughly 2'6" X 6" X 4". So, small enough for any boxes that a random store would have laying around.

But hopefully in a few months when I order a UPR K member, UPR front coilover conversion, and Maximum Motorsport caster camber plates, I can lift the front up a little bit for some more clearance. It's got a lot of negative caster from being dropped on a stock height alignment, so I think fixing that geometry alone and getting it back to center will raise it a few tenths of an inch. Along with the coilovers, that are adjustable by hand.

I don't know. I think the previous owner took the cheap way out to getting a slammed Mustang, and pulled the front spring isolators. I need to do something to get about a .25" to .5" raise out of the front. That's what's killing me, since it's lower than the rear, and making the X pipe scrape.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

If you daily drive it, no. Almost any car looks dumb in 4X4 mode, but I've already had to spend 90 dollars just in exhaust work. The first $50 wasn't the fault of any roads, just to have my buddy put the offroad X pipe on. It's a PITA with a Mustang because of the big OHC engines, and the manifold to mid pipe bolts being right up near the engine. Need about an 8 inch extension and an air ratchet. Then I scraped the new BBK X pipe 4 times within 24 hours of having it on, and a couple weeks later, a dip in a parking lot ripped one of my Flowmasters off, the passenger side muffler. That was another $40 to have my guy beat the flange of the X pipe back out, bolt the muffler back on, and weld it.

Sometime in the future I'm going to throw away $1,000+ on a Bassani X pipe and the Borla Stinger catback, for clearance and the fact that the Flowmasters are trashed now. When the one got ripped off, it basically ruined the catback, smacked the axle and bent the tubing, so it's only temporarily staying on.

Believe me, I'd be so much happier with daily driving a bike when the weather is alright, and keeping the Mustang for when it's cold, rainy, etc, and as a weekend car. I think the IROC is going to be a garage jack stand warrior forever. 30+ MPG, fast, fun, don't have to worry about scraping an exhaust system, or any sort of clearance issues, I want a bike.

Oh, only one other person has had any interest in the grille, and I wasn't even planning on selling it, so you're alright. And thanks, not too many folks around here believe in complimenting a Mustang.

The thing weighs like a pound, so it should be around only 10 dollars to ship. I don't know. Still gotta find a box. Dealing with traffic on Friday pissed me off, so I completely forgot about getting one. I swear some people have an I.Q. of 5. Had someone honk at me, basically telling me to pull out, when there's a big 18 wheeler coming in the lane I needed to be in.

Yeah i wanted the grille, but i didn't want to lowball to much. But that is really cheap for a 86 camaro grille you could have made a killing on ebay, but that's the great thing about TGO. I would rather have a new 91 or 92 bowtie grille for my frankenstein conversion.

Re: 1986 IROC Part Out (Interior & Exterior)

I've just about given up on selling anything, because shipping is annoying. Whenever I eventually have the IROC town down and painted, I'll probably let everything I have for sale just sit in my shed for years to come until some local third gen guy wants it. Mainly because it's all big stuff that I want to get rid of.

I still have the entire third brake light, housing and the light.
