POR 20 (high temp) on headers? anyone tried?
anybody try that POR 20 on their headers? they say its good for that, well
I want to know if anyone has used it yet. It sounds like a good deal. I used
their POR 15 on a few items in the car, and its actually an awesome paint.
But has anyone tried the high temp stuff on the headers? says guaranteed
not to burn off, crack off or discolor. sounds good but....

I've been wondering that too. I want to use it on my entire cat-back, cat, y-pipe, and headers so it all looks uniform. Then I want to coat the underbody in the simi-gloss black POR 15. POR 15's product claims has yet to fall short of anyones hopes so far, so I woulden't be surprised if it works great for years. The problem is that ever other company promises the same thing and they flake off after a month or two.
I'm getting my exhaust at the end of this month, maybe I'll find out than.

What's the temp resistance in it, I've used 1200* spray paint before and after a month started to chip off. I'm sure as long as it protects near 1500* you'll be fine. That's what I plan to do.

well, its not POR 15, its POR 20. and its guaranteed to 1500. i think it looks
just as nice as ceramic coating. its not cheap stuff though, its like $40. not
some cheapie can of $5 crap. i think im going to give it a try, but I wont
be putting the headers on right away, getting the 350 rebuilt. this guy builds
performance engines, he told me i will be pushing out just over 400 hp! sweet!
cant wait, just a few weeks!

I've used it!!!!!!! And I don't recommend it. It doesn't look as good as ceramic coating either. It's just a flat silver color.
Anyway, when I put my new motor in I used it on my new TES headers thinking it was a great deal. I followed the instructions by sand blasting first to rough up the surface. Then I even sprayed it on instead of brushing. After my initial 20 min break in period it completely blistered off.
However, I called the company and they refunded my money so go ahead if you wanna try it.

well, that sucks. im just glad i guess that i didn't spend the money on that
then. I thought if it works as well as their POR 15, its worth it. thanks for
replying that its just not the deal it says it is.

try heating the headers first. then paint them and let them cool. i don't know if this will work or not. just a suggestion.

Well I used the por-20 on my headers and cat-back and this was 3 months ago and I have not had any rust or blistering at all. I know a couple of my buddies used it on their stuff to and they loved it equally. I would deffinatly recomend sand blasting and going with at least 2 coats and then waiting for 24 hours after the last coat to do the install.

i've used it also
sandblasted prior to application, with two coats afterwards
i let it dry quite a while before install
upon start-up mine did bumble somewhat, but from what i read, this stuff needs heat to cure. Its been a year and its held up not bad, im not overly impressed, however i think most of the paint missing is from nicking them while their hot.
My y-pipe did however hold up fairly well

I can't speak for the POR stuff, but I used some Duplicolor cheapo-high temp header ceramic paint and it worked out quite well. I used it on used headers and a new Y-pipe. The Y-pipe still looks pretty decent. It is not shiny at all, but the paint stayed on fairly well. The headers themselves were used and had some rust starting here and there... I didn't sand blast them , but I did wire brush them a bunch, sand them lightly with some 80 grit, and wash them off with brake clean before painting them. I put about 5 coats on each header and two or three on the Y-pipe. I would have to say that for the price, the Duplicolor stuff really impressed me. here is a pic of my engine. You can't really see much of it, but the #2 primary that goes up can be seen fairly well in this pic. Most of the headers and Y-pipe look like that with just a few places having had the paint flake off completely. I may go this route with my next set of headers since it is so economical.

Yeah...thats the $5 stuff I used on my dads truck and it lasted longer than POR-20.
I have heard of people baking there headers in an oven to heat cure the POR-20. I didn't have access to a junk oven so I couldn't try that.
