So loud it hurts?!?!?
I working on finnishing up a 350 that is going into my 85 T/A. The heads are ported with 1.94 and 1.50 valves, and I am putting a cam in it (probably the comp cams xe268). I am going to run hooker supercomp lt's, and either dual 3s with x pipe, or mufflex y pipe. Either one will probably have dynomax bullet mufflers, and turndowns. I am leaning toward the x pipe if I can find someone to do it. I was wondering if this will be loud enought to hurt your ears? I wouldnt have even worried about it but my friend has a 84 toyota supra with an inline six, and his muffler has a huge hole in the bottom of it and it got loud enought that it hurts your ears to ride in it. My lg4 has/had(same car this will be going in) a single 2.5 pipe running to the back exiting with 2 3 inch tail pipes. I didnt have a muffler or a cat. I did not think that my lg4 was too loud the way it was. I actually loved the way it sounded. I am attaching a picture of a dual exhaust that is on a 97 camaro ss and was wondering if this kind of setup would work about the same on a third gen with custom bent pipes of course. If done by a good shop, would my ground clearance be the same, better, or worse than the fourth gen? My car has not been lowered, and has new shocks and struts, and rear springs, so it sits as high as it is supposed to.
Thanks
Ben
Thanks

If you just have the turndowns like in the picture it is going to LOUD inside the car, a friend has those on a 69 Camaro with Flowmasters and it sounds good outside the car but inside it's enough to drive me nuts, he doesn't have the X-pipes and I think that would quiet it down a little bit.

the underbody of the cars are pretty similar i would think that groud clearence would not be as good as stock but similar to what the 4th gen has

Thats what I figured about the ground clearance, I just wanted to check. About the sound, would it make a difference if the turndowns were angled outward a little so the sound didnt just reflect straight back up at the bottom of the car?

I think that the theory on that would be that it is reflecting off of the ground back up at the car instead of the sound exiting behind the car.

Would this be considered one?
My pipes on my flowmaster kinda turndown and end before the bumper. Not a very good angle though
Heres a better pic

Yes, a turndown is just a piece of pipe that bends so that it aims downward. It will not cause it to be louder if it is at the back of the car like that though, because the when the sound is reflected back up it is behind the car. I know that if the pipe sticks out behind the bumper just a little, it reduces the inside noise because the sound is let out after the back of the car so it does not resonate through the car.

Its quite noisy inside the car when I drive it. And I 100% Love it! I wish it ended shorter- hehe :lala:

I think another reason its so loud is because the exits are not back far enough. I had a very similar setup on an 81 camaro, and it was really loud inside the car. I used Hooker competition headers with an X-pipe, and two Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 series mufflers that dumped in front of the axle like the picture above. Everything was 2.5". It was awesome outside, but could give you a headache inside.

TTT I think that cross pipe setup would kick @$$ on a third gen. Just wanted to put this on the top and see what others think. If there is a for sure way to know if it fits I would do it on my car.
