Exhaust hanger bolts, what are they?

I have my resto mod build at a point I need to start test fitting parts. Need to start with my holley blackheart dual exhaust. I can't find my stock exhaust hanger bolts. Anyone know what they are, and/ or a place to buy some?

Thanks!

Pretty sure most of them are those pointy body bolts. 8mm x 1.25 with flanged head.

Re: Exhaust hanger bolts, what are they?

This was exactly the information I needed. Found some on Amazon.

As the my build starts accelerate and finally move forward towards the finish line, I am sure I will run into a lot of situations like this.

Thanks again!

Re: Exhaust hanger bolts, what are they?

So I got the M8 x 1.25 off Amazon. They certainly look like other bolts I have seen on the car, but they are not pointy enough. Thread seems off too when trying to force into the exhaust hanger hole.

Re: Exhaust hanger bolts, what are they?

I've seen some on various cars that were also about 8mm but looked more like sheet metal screws... not sure if they used different ones in different years

There are tons that look exactly right on Amazon, but I can't be sure from pictures and I don't want to buy endless screws I don't need. I will try to call Hawks on Monday. They sell a kit with the screws, maybe a nice tech can tell me the size and thread pitch.

Re: Exhaust hanger bolts, what are they?

I’m not sure how to measure pitch but I just had a hanger bolt out yesterday and the head size was 1/2”. It’s got coarse threads. Not sure if that helps.

The threads look more like a lag screw used for wood.

They're13mm actually... ½" = 12.7mm... close but not exact.

Re: Exhaust hanger bolts, what are they?

I was looking thru my bolts for reassembly... looks like the air dam bolts are a match.

No idea what size those are though. And yes, they are very course. Will search the web for air dam bolt size since exhaust hanger bolt size turned up nothing.

On second thought, the bolt I found may not be for the air dam, but it does in fact fit the exhaust hanger threaded hole in the frame. It has a 13mm head. It's a bit over 8mm diameter and has a sharp point...

Will ask Hawks tomorrow.... project is at a stand still till I figure this out

Re: Exhaust hanger bolts, what are they?

So today's search for the bolt ended up with buying these. I resized the image and literally placed the bolt I am trying to match on my phone. It was a perfect match, except these have an added washer.

Will be here in a few days. Fingers crossed.

Re: Exhaust hanger bolts, what are they?

I love that you can get almost any fastener from Amazon now instead of driving around for half a day to multiple hardware stores hoping they have what you need. It’s also nice being able to choose options for the hardware you want: stainless steel, black stainless, allen head, torx, etc…
Only problem - like you already encountered - is trying to figure out what the right bolt size & thread pitch is to look for it online. Another negative is sometimes you have to buy a large quantity of hardware when you only need a few pieces.
Glad you found the bolts you needed!

Re: Exhaust hanger bolts, what are they?

So after two failed attempts, I am here to say I have finally been victorious in sourcing the correct bolts for the exhaust hangers.

For people google searching, 92 camaro uses M8-2.12 x20mm Hex Washer Head Tapping Screws

Got them off Amazon.

After going thru this ordeal, and seeing how nice new bolts look. I am replacing every beverI saved (which is almost all of them). I think/hope other areas will be easier to identify.

Anyways, can finally get back to the project!
