When choosing an exhaust

Hey guys! I have an 88 IROC that needs a new exhaust system. I know that it's all basically up to the owner of the car in terms of choice of tones (loud or quiet) as well as manufacturer. My question is, I'm wanting to go with short tube headers, off road y pipe, and 3" catback most likely from Magnaflow. How do you choose your headers and y-pipe?? Does it matter who makes the y-pipe or should they all pretty much bolt right up regardless of manufacturer of the headers and y-pipe?? I'm wanting to go 3" for as much of the exhaust as possible. I just don't want to get Hooker or Heddman headers and get a Magnaflow y-pipe and have them not bolt up correctly and then have to deal with exhaust leaks all the time. I know the smartest way is to get as much from the same company as possible, but i'm just curious if anyone knows about this for sure? Any info is appreciated.

Re: When choosing an exhaust

You need a Y pipe that matches the header you buy.
At minimum I would get 1 5/8 primaries on the headers.

Also make sure the Y pipe has a 3" merger that may require some modification on some Y pipes.

I would stay away from the flotek and summit brand headers / Y pipe they are terrible.

Magnaflow is a great catback.
