Stock versus modified 305 mufflers
Just curious as to your opinion on how she runs after changing the muffler.
I have a Cobalt 4cyl right now and I'd bet an aftermarket exhaust would mess it up pretty bad.
But
On V8s though, I think most of us like to hear a bit of a warble, rumble or some kind of mellow tone when under power. So, I wonder do the automakers assume we are going to put a 'more open' muffler on the car OR do you think they put the best all around muffler on the car from the factory?
I see some posts on here they just want it loud. Or some want it faster and louder. I want to be able to hear a nice tone, but I value smooth combustion, proper backpressure, good scavenging and a slightly pressurized intake pulse(but I think that isn't very pronounced on old engines before we got EFI and tight airboxes).

For people who want loud, there are certainly plenty of options. But I think the "louder than stock, particularly at WOT, but low resonance and not obnoxious at cruise" character of the Magnaflow is what makes it a popular upgrade on our cars.

After hearing some videos online, it seems you are correct about factory. It sounds good and smooth. Some of the aftermarket ones sound raspy and kind of nasty. I guess, like with fourth gens, exhaust is a Ford thing. Them Mustangs sounded good and loud and had the true duals. While we had a Y-pipe. It is okay though, you have to have your priorities and know where to put your money.
