Dougs 3321's

A member gave me a link to these ceramic coated 1.75 primary long tube headers. Jegs wants 650.00 but will price the 565.00 price in the link I was given. The link is in the thread headers needed started by Splitty. Has anybody tried installing these headers? Seems like a good price.

What do you think of them? How did they fit? Ground clearance? Any noticeable performance gains? Do you know if they will support 500 hp? Are they ceramic? If so how has the finish held up? Sorry for the laundry list of questions but your the only one to reply, that I thank you for sir.

Re: Dougs 3321's

I have nothing to compare them too. When I bought them hookers were around 700.00 these were 500 and ceramic that is why I bought them. They have about 5 inches of ground clearance but it will depend on ride height. I have stock suspension but run a 24" tall front tire I think factory is 26" so you might have 6". Yes they support 500 hp I have a 383 with victor jr heads and around a .620 solid roller cam with a 175 shot of nitrous this is over 500 hp. I think they fit fine they don't leak nice flanges, I did have some rubbing on the pass side by the control arm mount, but I have a raised port head and I think the 1/4" that the exhaust is raised was why there was slight interference. I also don't have a/c. so I am not sure about that. I am not sure about the finish I think if I took care of them it would be better but I don't at all. I did my initial motor brake in with them on the car and which they tell you not too do that. I have had them around 5 years they don't see snow and very rarely see rain. They aren't rusting there just kind of dull now but like I said I don't do a thing to them. if you want a specific topside photo let me know.

Re: Dougs 3321's

Thank you sir, I am going to get a set of these. It sounds like we have similar set ups. I also have raised port heads, Brodix,230 runners lots of work done to them, and run a solid roller.
I am looking for a new cam now. How do you like that cam?

Is your car a street car? Mine is very streetable, but makes no power till 3500, after that it parties. Its not an issue for me cause it is a stick car.

I am rebuilding the engine now, the teeth on the brass distributor gear were almost wore off and two lobes on the cam had considerable wear on them. Previous owner got cheap on the timing chain and cam. All the other parts are top shelf. Also the cylinders were scratched enough that honing wouldn't do it so I bored a new block and clearanced it for the 3.625 stroker crank. 370 ci.

Re: Dougs 3321's

I have a Lunati VooDoo the cam specs are .578 in .585 ex .243/.249@.050 duration. But I run a 1.6 rocker which gives me .617/.624 lift. I starts to pull around 3000/32 all the way to 68-6900 but at 7000 it is like turning the switch off. If I were to change the cam about the only thing I would look for is a wider lobe separation this one is 110 and with running nitrous I would like a 112 or 114 overall it works pretty good. I have a 700r4 with a 9 inch ford and 4:11. I use it as a daily driver in the summer. I made it to the strip for the first time last summer and now I am hooked. I am in process of installing a FAST 2.0 injection system.

Re: Dougs 3321's

I am going to spec this cam out, it pulls to 7500, and try to get something close or have one ground.

What did you run at the track?

Re: Dougs 3321's

I ran 12.5 12.3 but I was very inconsistent, my reaction times were terrible anywhere from .7 to .2 but I am certain it will run hi 11's it was going through the gate at 113 the nitrous I only tried 2/3 times and was very cautious only hit it at 1/2 track but hit the gate at 118 with a 150 shot so that to once it get it down I think I should be running mid to low 11 maybe 11.3 and I changed out to a 175 . Check out some of Howards cams look at 111313-12 but use a 1.6 rocker or look at 110753-10 with a 1.5

Re: Dougs 3321's

I have these headers too. They fit great and I haven't experienced any leaks either. My ground clearance with them sucks, but my car is also lowered 1.5" Mine aren't ceramic coated, they're just painted so I can't comment on how the ceramic finish will hold up. I had to slightly re-route some wiring and heat-wrap it to keep it from burning. Also, if you have a factory oil cooler you might have to remove it because on mine, it interfered with the driver side header. Overall though, I really like mine and definitely recommend them.

Thanks Mike. No In don't have an oil cooler. Do you have any pics of or measurements of how much they hang below the pan?

Thanks on the cam info, I will certainly check them out.

I took one pass on test night at our local track. I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I have an open 3.43 rear in it. 4 speed. My reaction time was so bad I didn't move until the other car 60'ed. lmao. I baby it out and it was sticking so I hammered it and it blew the tire off of course, I had to let off completely hit second and worked the pedal down, couldn't just hammer it.

On test night they don't prep the track like race night.

I didn't even know where the finish line was so I shifted to fourth and just slowed down after I went past the speed and time tower. It was a pretty bad run all the way around. I ran a 14 flat which was bad and also expected considering all the stuff I did wrong. But it did go 105 mph. So it was making power.

That was with the wiped cam lobes and dizzy gear and also pump gas and a stock cat back and muffler. Plus the shortie headers on this thing are some homemade jobs that are so bad it is amazing the thing could breath at all. 1.5 primaries hacked off, but not flush with the flange so they dead end inside some square tube welded over them running to 1.5 tubing down to some hacked off 2.5 collectors with pipe welded in there running to the Y pipe. It worked but is just a terrible job and quite restrictive. What exhaust do you run?

I am putting a rear end together as soon as this rebuild is finished.

Re: Dougs 3321's

I run Flowmaster Hushpowers through 2.75 tube. I had glass packs but they were really loud and the neighbors didn't like them at 6 in the morning, the Hushpowers are pretty decent have a mellow sound good flow and you don't get a drone inside the car. I had a couple of guys at the track ask me what I ran, they said they sound good and aren't deafening when I get on it. I now only have one guy in my neighborhood calling the cops on me every few weeks so I feel its was a good compromise can't please everyone.

I don't have any pictures at the moment. I'm just put a new engine in the car and haven't gotten the headers on yet. I'm going to try and get them on later this week though, so I'll snap a pic and post it up when I do.

I mocked them up tonight and am running into the same issue that GILLIGAN had with the passenger side control arm mount. The headers fit perfect with the stock heads but now I have AFR heads with a raised port which seems to be causing some interference. I'm thinking I could just grind on the control arm mount a bit to make it fit. We'll see.

Re: Dougs 3321's

I checked the height of the pan to the headers and the headers hang 1.5 inches lower than my pan, I tried to show this in the photos but was unable to hold a tape measure also. I also took a few of the control arm clearance not really sure you can see it but you can see how tight the fit is in that area. I agree with Mike I think he/you could get away with grinding. The amount of room needed is minimal especially if you are running solid motor mounts you don't have to worry about movement. I run a solid moroso mounts and I have a Canton drag pan 13-120 fits very well no leaks 7.5 inches high and 10.5 wide. I had a Hamburgers 1088 and could not get it to stop leaking.

Re: Dougs 3321's

I'm running the same headers and mine have started to flake off and rust. 7 yrs old now. I have 3" duals with a magnaflow x pipe and bullet mufflers. Although they fit well with my Brodix ik 200's (straight plug heads)they have clearance problems with my #7 spark plug. Would be better with angle plugs for sure. I have an old thread here in this section somewhere with pics and sound vids.
Run 10.98 at 123 and 6.96 at 97 1.49 60' with a NA 360" pump gas

Here's the thread
