Classic Chambered Powerstick?

Anyone have any experience with these? Doing a single exhaust setup with 2.25 inch tubing and a catalytic converter. I'm debating between their 20 inch and 26 inch muffler. What are the pros and cons of the two lengths? What's the power gain, sound level, and general satisfaction with them?

Re: Classic Chambered Powerstick?

They are pretty awesome mufflers. I have duals with the short sticks on them.

Quite when driving normal but really scream when at WOT.

Not sure on power gains but Headers is what will give you the most power.

And different lengths just means different loudness. Longer = quieter of course.

Re: Classic Chambered Powerstick?

That sounds awesome. I wish I could do headers, dual exhaust, cam swap, etc- but I just bought the Caprice (first car), and alas I don't the money to do all that. For now I'll just have to stick with a muffler change and an open element. Do you have any problems with interior resonance or cabin noise with the powersticks? Also, do you have any other cheap performance suggestions for my turd of a 305?

No experience with that system here.

But I want to suggest that you step up to a 3" cat back as the 2.25" one is too restrictive for any 305, even a stock one.

Its a little loud sometimes on the highway but once you settle down its not bad at all.

And literally the best thing you can do for a 305 is exhaust and make sure everything is cleaned up, spark plugs, intake, yadda yadda.

Re: Classic Chambered Powerstick?

Is it recomended that I upgrade to 2.5 inch exhaust, or will 2.25 inch suit my purposes just fine? I don't really see how spending a lot of money for an extra 1/4 inch will somehow make my car perform better on the street for daily driving.

Re: Classic Chambered Powerstick?

A upgrade consists of 3in mandrel bent pipe or larger with in my case 3in. tips. A better flowing Y pipe and CAT with Headers. Its done so the car can breath. The stock system is choking the car along with the TBI/CARB air intake. Both are usually one of the first upgrades done to support any others to come. Not to mention you get to pick a new exhaust tone/sound. You can drive your car with stock components with no problems after all its been doing it for many years. If you're keeping or restoring the car back to stock that's cool but a lot of use like me enjoy working on and adding aftermarket performance parts especially since many parts on our cars must be replaced anyway.

2.5" will give little if no gain in performance to your car.

All 305 LG4 (carb) and TBI motors pick up a lot of power by moving up to a 3" exhaust system from the y-pipe on back, sometimes 40hp additional vs. stock.

I was very happy with mine on my old setup. It's for sale if anyone wants it.

Ahh music to my ears... I can't wait to get the engine in my '87 IROC! I have also been considering going with a powerstick, but am still weighing my options.

Re: Classic Chambered Powerstick?

Sounds great in loudmouth system in place of the resonator

The longer the tube, the better the sound
