What exhaust that isn't "loud"
I have a stock 305 91 camaro. It sounds good, but I would like it to be a little bit louder. I'd like to hear my engine at all times, but still be able to talk to the passenger without having to talk over the exhaust.
What options am I looking at? Also how do these engines sound without a cat, but with the stock muffler?

Dynomax Super Turbo muffler is a good option for something a little louder, but not real loud. IMO

Re: What exhaust that isn't "loud"
Thats exactly what I wanted, and that's what I received. The Flowmaster American Thunder 80 series cat back gives a moderate tone in the car and a moderate to aggressive tone outside. I like to listen to the engine and exhaust simultaneously when driving most of the time, but am able to keep a conversation or listen to the CD player with out any problems. Keep in mind that Flowmaster has a very distinct sound, not a rumble but a thumping at idle.WOT is a different story.Thats the best I can explain it. I would listen to some videos on you tube as suggested .Just type in 1991 Camaro, then what ever exhaust system you want to hear.

Re: What exhaust that isn't "loud"
I have a 3" single in/single out Dynomax VT muffler. Very quiet when cruising, especially at 70 mph. Little to no drone. It is a unique sound, stomping on it makes it really loud. Has a valve that opens up creating basically a straight pipe. It's on-demand loud.
I hear noise from my LT headers over the muffler while cruising.
I'll post pics and a video on YT over the weekend.
I had the flowmaster 80 series, and I could NOT stand the drone it created. Not recommended for a daily driver.

Re: What exhaust that isn't "loud"
I've recommended this exhaust to many people already, but I'm saying the magnaflow cat-back is an ace in what you're looking for. Cruising around, the sound is there but it's not annoyingly obnoxious at all..my gf and my mom don't even complain! lol. But as others will tell you, when you decide to give the road the wrath of God..it screams!

Re: What exhaust that isn't "loud"
Magnaflow was my first choice, but then I decided to test out the VT. You are spot on though, that cat-back is supposed to be really nice for the price. I only went VT to test out the "no drone" claim since I daily drive my GTA. Plus I have LTs and needed a different y & i pipe. $760 wasn't bad for everything.
So, OP, I'm with svandorst on the Magnaflow.

Re: What exhaust that isn't "loud"
i agree with the last two. i also have magnaflow. its made to be quiet at idle but when you get on it it sounds great ive heard from friends. its always gonna sound different when in the car but it doesnt drone which is a plus. ive heard the dynomax drones a bit. one of the better and long lasting catback systems out there right now is magnaflow

Re: What exhaust that isn't "loud"
Yeah, I have the Dynomax Ultra Flo SS on my Camaro...loud and droney. But not my daily driver, so I enjoy it here and there. The super turbo and VT mufflers are supposed to be their quietest, and I get no drone with the VT. But with cost and ease of assembly, go with magnaflow. It's endorced by Mario Andretti, it HAS to be good :P

Spintech. Sounds great and is very quiet untill you floor it. No drony sounds or strange noises at certain RPMs. I have had them all through the years and Spintech and Borla are my favorite.

+1 i had this with headers and it was very streetable. Not obnoxious. I had the 2.5" catback tho. 3" may be a little louder.
