Muffled Exhaust for a "race" car
I'm looking for ideas for a car that is not really meant to be a street car but does see mostly street use. Considering ditching the stock layout (but not stock) for something shorter, lighter, simpler, better flowing... an would love ideas/suggestions/even pictures.
it's going behind a single turbo small block, so it needs to be fairly free flowing, but also want to quiet the car down. Right now there's a 3" downpipe but will probably run 3.5" (would love 4 but don't see how I'll ever have room), but not sure that I can get acceptable sound levels with 3.5".
What I'm thinking about is just mounting the muffler right where the converter is and either dumping the exhaust right behind it or out the side. Either way I don't really want to deal with getting the exhaust over the axle, it just seems like an extra restriction and a hassle to deal with when working on the car, I want to keep it simple.
I'm not sure that I can get one of my typical dynomax ultraflows that I use on everything in that location, and am considering just using something like one of the dynotech oval mufflers or maybe like a borla XR1.
Anyone done something like that? What did you use? Muffler recommendations?

Ditto, had a xr1 type muffler on my 11 to 1 383 and it was LOUD but with the turbo car it would have been abit quieter. I went dynomax ultraflow round on my 383 and it was still fairly loud but much quieter than the xr1. Same ultraflow on the turbo motor was alot quieter than that 383...almost too quiet.
Turbo will do some silencing by itself but you'll want something with abit more internal fiberglass packing for sound absorbtion than a straight thru type muffler. The thicker cased ultraflo's are pretty good at this.

On a turbo car, I'd consider the "straight-through" DynoMax Race Bullet (used to be the Walker Race Magnum) or the Moroso Spiral Flow.
