X pipe vs H pipe question vs single in dual out muffler on dual exhaust

Here's a question. Been reading up on how the H pipe and X pipe's are designed to equalize pressure on the exhaust. That makes sense. Now, what if you ran a true dual back to a say, single in-dual out muffler like the stock muffler set ups? Wouldn't that single muffler have the same effect on pressure equalization? Just curious because I'm currently running a single 3" off my 350 and am starting the planning for my next exhaust. while I love many of the set ups, I got thinking about the crossover effect which brought this question to mind.

The crossover needs to be pretty close to the engine have any worthwhile effect. The muffler at the back of the car is too far back.
