exhaust sound?
For some reason my exhaust sounds like it is coming out of my muffler really really fast. Even when idling. When i drive through my neighborhood people tell me to slow down. 0-25 and i am barely giving it any gas. Car is a 91' 350 tpi bolt on car. Exhaust system consists of shorty headers into a stock dual cat ypipe. Basically, 2 1/4 dual ypipe into a smaller 2 1/4 catback into a Summit racing muffler(flowmaster clone). Makes really good low end torque that way tho. I mean the car sound a lot better if i raise the fuel pressure a little( rich) but it has more power a little leaner, but it doesn't sound as mean. I am afraid to go bigger with the exhaust cause i heard that bigger pipes cool down the exhaust more. Maybe i still need bigger pipes?

Re: exhaust sound?
Just to make sure I'm reading your first post right.. Your exhaust goes down to a 2 1/4" single pipe before the muffler? Thats awfully small for a 350.. If thats the case I wouldn't hesitate to go to a larger diameter exhaust. Personally I'm running headers into a single 3" pipe.

Re: exhaust sound?
YIKES! I dunno how I missed that. Maybe the "2 1/4 dual y-pipe" got me to thinking it was a full dual 2 1/4" exhaust. Still a bit small, but better than a single 2 1/4".
DEFINITELY go to a 3" cat-back for the 350 & if I read right, headers into a stock y-pipe? #1, Where did you find headers that fit a stock y-pipe. (i'm just curious) and #2, Replace the y-pipe with a better flowing/aftermarket/custom made piece.

Re: exhaust sound?
I had the stock dual ypipe cut and welded to bolt up to the headers. I have always heard that the dual 2 1/4 ypipe is just as good as a single 3" pipe. What type of difference did you notice after replacing your exhaust?

You wont loose torque due to the larger exhaust. Just run a good 3" single.
These cars have a sleek look to them, so even when going slow it may appear that your speeding. Combine that with any decent sounding exhaust you will get attention. Its happened to me a bunch of times. Dont sweat it.
