im building a 3inch catback using dynomax 3 inch int. pipe and i have 2 choices of ultra flow mufflers .. one is 3 in and 2 2.5 out and the other is 3 in a 2 3" coming out .. these are both crossflow mufflers .. is there any power gains going from 2.5 tailpipes to 3" tailpipes ??? if not ill just use my 2.5 tailpipes ..

 

Two 2.5" pipes flow more than the single 3" going into the muffler, so use them if you already have them. Also, I would recommend a Magnaflow muffler over the Dynomax.

 

I dont' think thats what he was asking. He's talking about his tailpipes not the I-pipe. Anyways, use the tips you have.

1. You will not gain any horsepower by running bigger tips becuase the tips do not restrict your exhaust flow. The restriction comes from your manifolds, y pipe, i pipe size, and muffler. Your tips have no effect on flow.
2. 3 inch tips will just give you a slightly deeper sound, thats all. I have the Hooker cat back on my car with 2.5 inch tips and it flows amazing becuase of the muffler design, not the tips.

I do agree that a magnaflow muffler will sound better.

 

thanks guys.. do they make a magnaflow muffler that is 3" in and 2.5" out.. i saw there exhaust on summits site and there tailpipes are not my cup of tea..

 

ok, i just found a magnaflow muffler that i need on summits site ..part#12267 .. another question is will this muffler bolt up to the dynomax 3" i-pipe and over axle pipe.. part#'s wlk44063 andwlk43248..

 

Yes, the Mangaflow will work with the Dynomax pipes. It's the same setup that I am using. Here is a crappy pic:

 

buy a set of 4 inch tips :P had that with flowmasteron a 305 and it sounded amazing lol

 

i bought the 3"dynomax pipes and magnoflow muffler today .. also got the dynomax 2.5 tailpipes.. install tomorow..

 

Also looking at the 3" dynomax intermediate pipe. Let me know how good it installs...Thanks!
