Muffler Questions...
I got an '88 Camaro with the 305 TBI and the 5 speed manual. I want to get a different muffler for the car so that its a little louder and has more of a growl. Money is an issue right now and so I cannot get a whole cat-back system. The cat has already been taken out and the rest of the exhaust system is stock. I measured the pipe on the car and it looks like its 2.25 inches. After looking through some mufflers online they all seem to have 2.5 inch ins and outs. Did I somehow mange to measure my car wrong or is it supposed to have 2.25 inch pipes? Or am I supposed to use a 2.25 to 2.5 adapter? Also, can someone point me towards a good muffler for my car? I want to be able to just unbolt the stock one and throw the new one on without really modifying anything.
Thanks in advance and I'm sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere; I wasn't able to find the thread.

Re: Muffler Questions...
Would this work with an adapter on the inlet?

Re: Muffler Questions...
If your car has the crossflow muffler design then any will work. Sky is the limit. Magnaflow, flowmaster, hooker, dynomax, spintech and I think borla makes one as well on there old systems without the plate. Now sound is another issue. Magnaflow and dynomax would be quiet with your 305. If you want a growl then flowmaster, spintech or maybe a hooker. All should just cut out and replace with a new muffler. Most of these mufflers are under 150.00. The magnaflow comes in stainless steel and the spintech(if you asked). Everyone has there own idea of which sounds best. If you go to youtube you can hear all of these on our cars to get an idea of what you want.

If u want growl when u step on it and just quiet when ur cruising , get a Thrush Welded Muffler, i think they have one in 2.5 and 2.25 best bang for buck muffler out there if u ask me, its basically a copy of the flowmaster only it cost 30 bucks and not 100 , do a search around Summit Racing for Thrush Welded and find one that is crossflow.

Re: Muffler Questions...
Thanks for the input. I'm kinda looking at this one right now:
http://www.spintechmufflers.com/muff.../prod_381.html
I'm just concerned that it will be too loud, and I don't really like $130 tag on it either. Does anyone have any experience with this muffler? Worth the money or not?

Re: Muffler Questions...
That is a chambered muffler like flowmaster and the trush welded, they are loud , if u open one up its a hollow case with some walls in between, if someone had access to some metal and a welder they can make that type of muffler on their own, what ur gonna pay for that muffler is too much , is basically the same thing as a flowmaster , get the trush welded its like 30 dollars and its the same thing as all those other more expensive chamber mufflers , u are gonna pay for the brand, if u dont want too much noise but still some nice mellow sound then get a Magnaflow, unlike those mufflers , the magnaflows have fiberglass inside that acts as a sound dampening, other brands have mufflers like these also for example the Cherrybomb Turbo muffler or Thrush Turbo muffler.

I don't like the Flowmaster sound. So no Thrush Welded either since they sound alike. Magnaflow is too mellow and quiet for my tastes. It sounds like stock to me.
Plus that SpinTech has all 2.25 ports so I won't have to mess with any adapters.
