Re: Smog Pump
if i remember correctly as long as the car is 87 or older the cat is not required and if you remove the cat then there would be no requirement for the smog pump. as long as your car is older than 87 you can remove the smog pumpand still pass state inspection yes.(due to the fact that texas does not sniff check cars that old) however be aware that it is never legal, being technical here, to remove any pollution control equipment on a car originally equiped with such devices, Federal law, not state law. State law governs only testing.

Well reason being, its because a 91 camaro rs, the motor was replaces with a 350 tbi out of a 90 model chevy pickup, and I notice the belt was tear on one side. So I looked at all the pulleys to make sure they were aligned, and I noticed the smog pump was off a little bit. So I thought if I removed the smog pump, that would solve the problem.

Re: Smog Pump
my best advice to you would be to call a local muffler shop in your area and ask "starting what year vehicle do i have to have a catalitic converter installed to pass the inspection?"
state laws say"An older engine may be installed in a newer chassis if all emission control systems and devices are connected, including the exhaust system and catalytic converter, and the resulting engine-chassis configuration conforms to the engine configuration of the model year of the chassis or newer. It is illegal for anyone to change a vehicle into an older configuration." and "
Tampering may include, but is not limited to:

- Removing the catalytic converter, air pump, and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, or doing anything to keep them from working properly, such as disconnecting vacuum lines and electrical or mechanical parts of the pollution control system.
