Y-pipe Dougs D9101 looks like Hooker 16767
I've got the Hooker 2460 headers on my 88 camaro. Open headers is a little loud and I am ready to put on a y-pipe. Hooker is extremely proud of their #16767 y-pipe ($240-ish) which is made for these headers.
Well I saw pictures of Doug's Headers #D901 y-pipe. From the pictures it looks like a duplicate. It is only $160-ish.
Could I be this lucky? Does anyone know if the Doug's Y-pipe will actually fit the hooker 2460 headers? This sounds like a dumb question but they look SO SIMILAR!
Thanks. See attached hooker #16767 y-pipe pics. Pics are from major mail-order performance parts houses.

I have that y-pipe and header set up on my car, the construction quality is great but i don't like how low it sits, on my car the y-pipe hangs lower than the x-member and the pipe scrapes on a lot of things which just makes the most sickening sound. Not a big fan for the price.

stroker_ss - when you say you have this setup, do you mean the hooker headers combined with the dougs d9101 Y-pipe? or the hooker 16767 y-pipe?
if it is the dougs y-pipe, is it a bolt on to the hooker headers, or was modification required?
THANKS.
bummer about the ground clearance.

Energy suspension motor mounts raise up the motor some don't they? Maybe they could give you a little more clearance.

I ended up trying and the doug's y-pipe fit the hooker headers for me.
I have an aftermarket summit "stock type, but a little deeper" oil pan, and there was an interference where the pipe runs under the pan. I clearanced the pan with a small sledge hammer, touched up the pan paint, and wrapped that portion of the pipe with some exhaust wrap from a local parts store. I don't know whether this would be a problem or not with a true stock pan.
Tip - I didn't use the metal zip-ties they want to sell you with the exhaust wrap, I just used regular stainless hose clamps of the appropriate size (big enough for 2.5"), one at each end of the wrapped portion. This is much cheaper, easier (I did try the metal zip-ties without satisfaction), and you can remove and retighten a regular hose clamp too.
Also, I used the solid aluminum collector gaskets and am happy.

If I recall, the aluminizing on the y-pipe was a little weak, I used high temp paint of similar color to improve the appearance.
Also, I did use a walker cataltyic converter to stay legal. I also added added hedman AIR injection manifolds to the headers and hooked both the cat and air manifolds up to the smog pump.

I'm not in California, and I really don't know if this would be adequate for your state. Actually, I doubt it. You can buy headers with CARB numbers, I believe. I do not think Hooker 2460 has a CARB number.
Hedman hedders, # 22830 is the AIR manifold kit. One place you can find it is at summit, go to their website & search for that P/N to see a picture.
The kit includes both AIR manifolds (one is shown in my picture above). You get the kit, position the AIR manifold on the header (which is in a bench vise - off the car), mark the header tubes, drill each mark, put the AIR manifold just a little bit in each hole, then weld it on. I used MIG. Repeat for the other header & AIR manifold. Then tie in to your factory AIR system.
I just happened to have the 2460 headers already. If I was going out to buy headers, I would have bought a set that already had the AIR tubes on them.

Sorry to bring up an old post but I'm having an issue that involves this same subject. I recent got a set of 2460's and I bought this Y pipe nad it sits WAY TOO LOW on the passenger side. Did any of you guys hav to modify the Y pipe at all?
