Evaluate my x-pipe design

I'm thinking about taking my car back to the exhaust shop to have them redo my x-pipe because after looking at it some it seems to be inadequate for my setup. the junction piece is only 2.5" wide, and it seems like both pipes(2.5") are fighting to get through this one 2.5" junction. i would assume that the junction should be at least 3.5" wide.

Also the angle that each pipe intersects at is 40* which seems a little to much of an angle to me. What do you guys think about this, am i right or am i over thinking this? the first pic is my x-pipe and the second pic is what i would assume it should look like.

I agree that the 2nd picture is what it should look like. You might have some restrictions with the one in the first picture. The flow from each pipe would be about 90 degrees to each other. I don't think that would help the flow.

In the 2nd picture the flow from both pipes is generally along the same lines so there would be no crosswind so to speak.

that first one is going to restrict flow for sure, make the change i think you will notice an improvement in performance

Re: Evaluate my x-pipe design

well i called the shop that did my exhaust and talked to the owner (very nice guy and fair with his prices) and i asked him if he could put in and H pipe for me instead of the X pipe, because after some reading i found that with chambered mufflers like my flowmasters it sounds better to have an H pipe, and with straight through type mufflers it sounds better with an X pipe, and i would like to try this. he quoted me at $50 to make it including the flanges.

so i take it in and every time i bring a car to this shop the owner is never there, and i end of talking to this grumpy old man and he gives me a hard time about the work i want and how it is wrong and how i should do this instead of that. so anyway this old man asked if the owner gave me a price, i told him $50, and he says no way thats gonna cost you $100, after a couple of minutes of being pissed off i walk back up to him and tell him that $100 is fine and to go ahead and do the work and to call me when its done, after i walk out the door he comes after me and says that its going to cost me $150 to do it. Im like what? you JUST said it was $100, he refuses to give me a reason why he can't do it for the $100 he just said, so i get my car off the rack and i leave, its almost as if he didn't want to do the work. I'm pretty sure this old man only works there because he was a friend of the owners dad who past away not too long ago leaving the business to his son the current owner.

anyway, i ended up making my own H pipe with some summit 3-bolt flanges and some 2.5" SS pipe i had laying around with a 2" SS crossover pipe. cost me $7 for 4 flanges and a couple hours work mocking the pipes up only on jackstands, kind of hard welding underneath a car like that. all in all i like it, it sounds better, got rid of a lot of the raspyness and i can feel an even flow out the tailpipes rather than the left pipe flowing 3x as much exhaust as the right side. i also notice a power increase in the mid rpm range, where it always seemed to lack.
