Short headers

Hi all,

Has anyone ever used headers like this one? I can get a cheap pair and was wondering if they are feasible?

Any help would be gratefully received

Are they going to fit on your car?

Re: Short headers

I've got a 305 '86 Firebird manual. They are made for the SBC but its just whether they are any good. I'm going to be fabricating my own system from the headers back. Just thought these might be a good start?

Cheers

Re: Short headers

Will they clear the K-member for example? I have not seen any third gen headers with that shape.

Re: Short headers

That style does not look to fit. They look more like a truck or street rod header where clearance is not an issue. For something that will fit your car for less than $100 go to summitracing.com and search for this part number SUM-G9005

Re: Short headers

Those won't fit... the collector on those headers exits right ontop of the crossmember under the oil pan. You'll never get it hooked up to an exhaust pipe, even a custom fabricated/bent one. Those are meant for hot rod and engine swap applications, and also fit some years of Corvette. Will not work in a Camaro/Firebird.

Re: Short headers

those look like block huggers. i couldnt tell you how many times i have seen that block huggers will not work on our cars. you can get hooker2460's for like $150 since you are customizing the rest of the way back i think they might work for you. but not the ones you are looking at.

Re: Short headers

I used the summit SUM-G9005 and they bolted right up. just make sure you use good wire looms and not plastic cause the passenger side melts them I discovered

Re: Short headers

those will not fit with out major fab work..those are block huggers for a v-6 to v-8 swap for a s-10 truck..won't have the clearance you need to make the bend because of the k-member

Re: Short headers

Well they fit my 91 that I swapped the v6 for a 350 v8 and I had to get the Dynomax performance exhaust dual kit and mufflers to install since no one would do the exhaust at a shop.

Re: Short headers

taz -- read post #7 carefully.

The 2460's are a drop-in fit. Biggest problem will be clearance/access
for 3 bolts, where the tube bends to that direction. (My solution was
a judicious use of heat, & channel locks, to get a bit more clearance.
Some prefer a BFH. )

Re: Short headers

hey taz that looks good! i have to get more pics up of mine sometime or another. i need to take my headers back off and open the collector up some more. i've got hooker 2055's and they have a ball and socket fitting. leaves a carbon ring on the ball part. gonna cut it away to allow for more air flow.
