What if I unpacked my muffler?
I've got an 86 firebird 5.0 with an exhaust system I'm pretty sure is still stock, as in a 2.5" pipe with 124k miles on it. Anyways I'm thinking my car is way too quiet and I've allowed myself a budget of pretty much $0 because I'm going to college this fall and I might also sell my car to find a GTA. Anyways, I was wondering if I could just go and cut out a section of metal from the bottom of the muffler and pull out the glass-packing to make it louder? Then maybe take some sheetmetal and wrap it around the perforation to make it more like a straight-pipe. No really, this thing's embarrassingly quiet for a firebird...

Re: What if I unpacked my muffler?
it's not really worth the trouble. I did unpack a dynomax muffler on my firebird about a year ago. First off the case is double wall and the loudness only improved a little bit. I would look for another muffler maybe ebay before I go that route. Maybe a glass pack with a single tailpipe. there's alot of welding involved to the case more than i wanted to do for what it's worth.
