Help With Big Block Exhaust

well i finally bought a big block and im picking it up sometime this weekend.its going in my 88 Formula and as you guys all know its very difficult to run exhaust under there. The car is lowered front and back and with the sbc i had in there prviously with dual 3.5 exhaust it was VERY close to the ground.I would like to drive it on the street some so noise level is going to be somewhat of a priority.Ive heard that the best i can do in this case is run collector mufflers because thats all that will fit.

What kind of exhaust have you guys ran in these type cars with a big block? If you can post pics that would be great.Almost forgot, the headers are going to be 2 3/8 stepped to 2 1/5 with a 4.5'' or maybe even a 5''collector if i can get it to fit. Thanks

Re: Help With Big Block Exhaust

3.5" single is probably pretty decent if your at 454ci or less, and under 500hp. 3" Y-pipe into 3.5" single would probably be a good setup.

I think that may be a bit small for my application. Its a 598 ci w/big duke 1802 heads.makes 980hp on 93 pump gas and has a 2 stage gene fulton fogger for 500-600 hp of n20

Open headerslol I dont know what will fit under there without taking power away from your monster motor.

Re: Help With Big Block Exhaust

the problem with open header is obviously the noise.i would like to drive it on the street every once in a while. ive also been told about running the borla xr1 collector muffler and supposebly it quiets the motor down quite a bit. ive never heard a big block with them on though.

I see... well that changes things slightly. I figured this was going to be another "I took a 454 from a 78 dump truck - what exhast?" thread.

I wouldn't even bother with a single with a motor like that. It would have to be a sewer pipe to not create a restriction. I say go with full length headers, then just a straight pipe off each collector and dump at the axle, out the side. 3" each side would probably be ok. Not really going to be any room for a muffler(s).

Since you've got a full tube chassis anyway to handle all that power, build the exhaust, then build new floor pans.

Stock body with some sort of sfc I hope. If not I would like to watch what happens the first time you make a pass with the n2o shot.

my last set up which is the one in my sig was going 5.30's in the 1/8 and 8.30's in the 1/4 straight as an arrow. the new motor should run very close to that on muscle.i dont know why it would get too wild from just an additional 250hp especially since the old motor was on a plate and the new system is a fogger. yes it has custom sfc
