Question about y-pipe for hedman shorties

i have a set of hedman shorties #68470 with the ball flange though i know there is a y-pipe for it #17478 but i see that the y pipe is less than 2 1/4 ID and the back half that goes to the cat is only 2 1/2 OD

Before i buy the #17478 i wanted to know if the hooker y pipe #16767HKR that has a 2 1/2 y pipe and a 3" back half that goes to the cat would fit my hedman shorties since the hooker shorties look pretty similar to the hedmans

the only real difference to me between the hooker and hedman y pipe is the angle of the drivers side y pipe but it looks like the collectors meet up in the same place

if i buy the hedman y it will need to be modded at the back half thats not 3" but why buy that and mod it when the rest is 2 1/4 wen i could buy the hooker y pipe and mod that to fit the hedmans and retain a 2 1/2 y pipe and the back half won't need to be modded either

Has anybody tried this?

Does anybody know if the hooker 16767 y will fit the 68470 hedman shorties with out modification?

If not what mods will need to be done to the hooker y to make it fit the hedman shorties

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

No, the Hooker y-pipe won't fit Hedman headers. Besides, that Hooker y-pipe is only 2-1/2" outlet itself.

The Hedman y-pipe can be modifed by replacing the "Y" with a Flowmaster 2-1/2" in to 3" out "Y".

Re: Question about y-pipe for hedman shorties

i don't get why it wouldn't fit heres a link for it showing a pic and some spec for it. Isn't the same y pipe that comes with the hooker 2055 that has a 3" back half here a link to that. The one that comes with the 2055 headers has a 2 bolt flange while the one that u can buy separate has a 3 bolt flange like the hedman y pipe. Why is some of the back half missing for the y pipe that you can buy seperate and wats that other longer pipe for

Is there any fitment issues with any of these y pipes for a 92 camaro i have a lt1 mini starter on the car now

i currently have eldelbrocks tes which are crushed in multiple ares as thats how they were desined with no fitment probs though on a heavily modded 350 tpi is it worth to even swicth to the hedmans

Re: Question about y-pipe for hedman shorties

After doing some research i figured out that the hooker y pipe part #16767HKR is in fact 2.5 OD all around its missing part of the back half b/c it's sold to be run with no cat thats wat the other piece is for it connects the y pipe to the intermediate pipe but most people have 3" I pipes so that will all need modification and it's unknown if the y pipe flanges on it will accept ball and socket headers

After reading anesthes 5th post in the sticked 3rd gen header option chart thread it doesn't appear that the hedman 2 1/4 y pipe will cause that much of a restiction so the hedman #17478 y pipe might b the way i'll go still crious if the hooker yipe would line up with the hedman headers though
