91 3.1 exaust recommendations
I have a 91 camaro rs w/ a 3.1 v6 in it. I have the exhaust removed right now behind the cat because the cat and muffler was clogged. I need to make an exhaust system that will pass emissions. What I was thinking was throughing on a cheap universal cat, then do 3" pipe back to a flowmaster 40 series muffler behind the rear axle. The muffler would be 3" in and dual 2 1/2" out. Then have the 2 pipes go over the rear axle and come out on either side of the rear. Then after I get it to pass emissions i'm just going to replace the cat with a 3" pipe and hopefully some headers. If anybody has any suggestions for my car or a exaust system they think would work better that would be great.

i'm no expert, but if you don't plan on going turbo i'd say you probably don't need a 3in pipe. that's just going to be adding extra noise especially if you get rid of the cat and put on headers.

Well thats what I figured if I was staying with the v6 but eventually I want to throw in a 350 so I figured if I got my exaust set up now for that it would be better. So lets say I went to 2 1/2" could I still relocate the muffler and do a flowmaster single inlet/duel outlet behind the rear axle? Thats my main question here buecause I just dont like the idea of the crossflow muffler as much.

Relocate the muffler? Shouldn't it already be behind the rear axle as a 1 in 2 out? You can really put any muffler in stock location and just put a single exit. It doesn't have to be a crossflow. So to your main question, yes you can put a Flowmaster single in/dual out behind the rear axle.

u do not want a flowmaster on the v6 it sounds absolutly horid
a dynomax or magnaflow will perform and sound much beter then the flowmaster
if ur going to have the v6 for a while stick with 2.5 inch pipes a 3 inch ex will kill the low end tq u do have now.

Ok thanks for the help everyone. I have decided just to go with a dynomax catback because overall it would be cheaper and summit has a deal on them right now. Does anyone have a sound clip or video of a 3.1l camaro with a dynomax catback?

Ok so for my cat could I just use this catco universal cat with the dynomax catback? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...?part=CTO-6906
I have my exaust cut halfway through the bend into the cat so i'm going to need to cut it back a little farther and replace the bend and the cat. It would be much cheaper to buy the universal cat thats why I ask. Also sense it is a universal cat how would I go about bolting the cat to the catback system?
Thanks for the help so far everyone...
