I-Pipe not Mandrel Bent! (Dynomax/Summitracing)
I was (just) told that its normal for the I-pipe section going over the axel to be 'crushed in' from the factory for clearance issues, however after installing the pipe, it seems as though theres enough room so that they didn't have to crush the pipe....whats the story with this? I wanted a "FULL" mandrel bent exhaust system on my car and i feel cheated (after spending good money)...I've never heard anyone else speak of this...(I orderd the 2 I-Pipe sections from Summitracing, 3" Dynomax pipes) Can a "regular, non-crushed" pipe be ordered?

I'm pretty sure there are some catbacks that do the same thing to the pipe. I could have swore the hooker catback has it also. I'm not totally sure.
I purchased the same Dynomax 3" I-pipe from Summit. It's all Mandrel bent, it just has a "dent" on the section that goes over the axle.

I believe it's standard fair for most 3"+ catbacks... I've seen it on the Flowmaster american thunder and Hooker catbacks.

The I-pipe that I bought came in (2) sections...But I can't seem to find where I can buy the same rear section that doesn't have that stamp in it...I looked under my car and it looks as if there's enought clearance so that the stamp isn't necessary....I'm going to try and see if Summit sells a 'regular' rear section...

My stock 2.25" facotry exhaust has that same indentation there. I think it is for the panhard bar.
And if you are looking under your car, you would have to have the suspension completely loaded (i.e. ratchet the rear end to the body somehow) before you could possibly tell where clearence is needed or not.
If the dent is factory made - just leave it. Not gonna hurt flow or anything lol. The people that design these things are not stupid - they get paid to figure out where this stuff is needed.

Alright, I guess I'll just leave it alone then...its already in place...I just never heard of that before now...I looked at some pictures of the 3" Flowmaster Kit on Flowmastermufflers.com and there's no indentation(stamp) on their I-Pipe as seen in their pictures...Maybe there is a cat-back that doesn't have it...something to keep in mind for next time...

I've owned, and installed myself, both Flowmaster American Thunder, and Magnaflow 3" exhuasts and they are a full 3" from cat to muffler with no dent or anything going over the axle. Neither one hits the suspension.
