Maybe there's "no way," but.... Here's some info and pic (LG4 vs L69):

L69. yes. oval exhaust? well to tell the truth i don't know. but i've never heard of these things comming with ovals. but hey what do i know? lol.
so let make sure i have this correct.
its 2.25" out of the manifolds. with 2.25" down pipes into a 3" collector.
is that right?
thanks guys.

Are you saying that you have an L69 but that the Y isn't oval where it meets the cat (as seen in the link/pic above)? Just asking because I've never seen one that isn't--of course, I haven't seen them all.

Re: L69 Y-pipe

lol. Jim i honestly don't know. i will have to look. but if its 3" all the way to the cat,why in the world would i want a 2.5" y that comes with the hkr 2055's. i mean i want the headers, but not a smaller diam. y-pipe.
what am i missing here???
i ohnestly thought the last time i looked at it, that it was round. now i can't tell if its stock. but a women owned it before me and the entire exuaust looks to be stock. its old and has wholes in the muffler. its got to have atleast 10 yrs on it.

The L69 log manifolds and Y are the biggest available factory, but the Y eventually opens to 3. The Hookers have 1 5/8 inch primaries (IIRC) and are mandrel bent 2.5 to 3. They can support a 3-inch system to the tail pipes. I went from a LG4 set-up to the full L69 system (manifolds, Y, 4-bolt high-flow cat, and intermediate pipe) and experienced a wonder seat-of-the-pants increase. You'll experience the same from L69 to a full three-inch system. Don't have reservations about the Hookers.

Re: L69 Y-pipe

ok. thanks James. i am still undecided on what c/b i want. i won't be able to get the headers right now,but i am ready to buy the c/b. i'm torn between the jegs/magnaflow, and the hkr #16823. i just can't decide what sounds better the magnaflow or hkr muffler.
thanks again. jay.

Re: L69 Y-pipe

I believe the 3" flange on the cat is a different connector style than the 3" flange on the cat you need to buy for the hookers.

Chances are you will need to do some cutting / welding / fab work to get it all to fit.

The OE system has an oval Y with a four-bolt flange and cat with a four-bolt flange (on both ends). So to use the Hooker Y, yes, some ingenuity would be required. Don't bother if the expense isn't prohibitive. The following system is a direct-fit three-inch system--no cutting, welding or fabbing.

Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR).

The following pic of the Hooker Y and the Catco cat will give an idea:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...please-cat.jpg

Or you can go with a test pipe .

Re: L69 Y-pipe

so does the hooker y being a 2.5" round pipe the same as a fact oval 3" pipe. is it the open diameter in the middle that is the same on both style of pipes? 3" oval = 2.5" round. i can't believe that pontiac thought this engine needed to breathe that much. i mean 3" oval Y-pipe and 2.75" I-pipe. actually pretty sweet. when i open her up some more i should see a difference? yes???

when i searched for the headers i wanted i speced everything out for 86 and up firebird. there is no reason to have a cat on a 24 year old car that will be tagged classic for 10 months and antique. hence the test pipe.

You should crawl under your car and see what the factory pipe looks like. did you look at this pic in the thread that James linked to? There's only a short section that opens up to 3" oval. The rest of the y pipe not shown in the pic has 2 1/8" inside diameter pipe. Even less where its flattened going under the engine. See in the pic that piece of pipe laying to th right? That looks like the 2.75" intermediate pipe.

Re: L69 Y-pipe

yeah i looked at the pic james linked to me. i'm gonna have to take a closer look. i had planned on keeping the fact piping when i get my new chit. so i will take pics and post it. that is assuming it is stock. wich i'm pretty sure it is. my I-pipe looks exactly like the one pictured.

like i said a women owned this and i think the only thing was ever changed was the oil.

thanks guys. i just might look for a good Y-pipe to ffit my fact manifolds for now too. we'll see what the money thing is like. i don't like buying ***** twice and hooker doesn't sell their Y-pipe seperately do they?
